The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, Commissioners Dennis Purcell and Gary Larson both reported that no grading would be done due to the frozen ground, but crews would be busy in both districts cutting brush and replacing road signs. Commissioner Purcell said that in District 1 brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5080, and Commissioner Larson said in District 2 brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2210. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the Commission would be paying the last of this years bills and would then look at the counties budget to determine whether or not to pay off the Judicial Building Annex. Skiles said he is waiting to hear back from Kelly Parker for the exact payoff amount, and then the Commission will make a decision during Thursday’s meeting on whether or not to proceed.  Public Administrator Larry Edwards stopped by the meeting to discuss with the Commission his budget for next year.  Edwards said that the offices revenue is down from last year due to the fact that he lost two clients, and $9,000 that he expected to receive for a client this year will not be signed off on until February or March of 2010. At the previous meeting, James Coffman and Ed Pratt with the IDA Board stopped by the meeting to update the Commission in IDA activity and the Commission re-appointed all board members. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports. On Friday, December 18^th at 1:00 pm The Sheriff's Office received a telephone call from Jay Tyra, who owns property on County Road 2366 in Boss, stating that someone had broken into his garage and stole three ATVs along with other miscellaneous items. The house was untouched. Deputy Lewis responded to the residence arriving at approximately 1:49 p.m. to meet with Mr. Tyra. Mr. Tyra showed him one of his garage doors, the point of entry, located on the north east corner of the building. The suspect(s) gained entry through the door by using a portable circular saw to cut through one of the panels, once inside they cut the wires to the motion sensor and alarm box. The alarm system Mr. Tyra had in place is an audible alarm only, not connected through a central dispatch. The three ATVs that were inside had been removed through the other door that was secured by a padlock, which is now missing. The suspect(s) also took his tandem trailer (license# CXJ316) that was parked outside beside his carport awning, believed to be used to haul off the ATVs. A perimeter search of the property revealed a cut padlock located east of the garage lying on the ground. Mr. Tyra said that was the missing lock from the garage door. The lock as evidence, it was obvious that the lock was cut off by a pair of bolt cutters then thrown out onto the property by the suspect(s). Deputy Lewis and Mr. Trya went to the entrance gate to see if they could find the lock. They noticed the chain used to secure the gate had tools marks on both sides of the link. The marks look consistent with bolt cutter marks. Mr. Tyra found only the shackle to his heavy-duty oversized lock for the gate but the base portion of the lock was not recovered. Deputy Lewis also observed some burn marks on the shackle.  It's believed that the suspect(s)used a hand held torch to heat the metal shackle of the lock to soften the metal making it easier for them to cut & remove the lock. The stolen items are a Stillwater, 18-foot tandem axle trailer valued at $7,000; a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 ATV, green in color, valued at $5,500; a 2003 Honda, TRX350 FE ATV, valued at $2,500; a 2003 Honda, trx350 FE ATV, valued at $2,500; a Gorilla climbing tree stand, valued at $100; a 20" Craftsman chainsaw, valued at $100; a 14" Husqvarna chainsaw, valued at $200; and a Parker field Knife, located inside the Polaris ATV, valued at $150.00 dollars.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released their reports. On Saturday, December 19^th at 5:15 pm. Deputy Letchworth was dispatched to West Franklin in reference to a possible overdose. During the investigation, he learned that Mr. Dustin Lakey and a juvenile sold 10 Xanax to Mr. Vernon Frohock. While there he found one small blue tablet with the markings (MYLAN A1/score on the back side). The tablet was identified as Alprazolam, a DEA Schedule IV controlled substance. A short time later he went to West Hunt to find the juvenile and to speak with him. The juvenile admitted to Deputy Letchworth that he and Mr. Dustin Lakey went to the Mr. Frohock’s residence with the intentions of selling Xanax to him. At 8:24 pm, he read Mr. Lakey his Miranda Warnings. Mr. Lakey stated that he understood his rights and signed a waiver of rights. Mr. Lakey admitted to giving Vernon Frohock 10 Xanax. The transaction occurred on West Franklin. That residence is approximately 538 feet from Southwest Baptist University. He also admitted to having approximately 40 Xanax in his bedroom on West Hunt. A short time later Deputy Letchworth retrieved the tablets from that residence. The tablets were in an orange pill bottle prescribed to Mr. Patrick S. Ford.  Mr. Lakey stated that Mr. Ford gave him the tablets about a month ago. The tablets in the pill bottle have the markings (MYLAN A1/score on the back side). The tablets were identified as Alprazolam. Dustin Lakey was charged with one felony count of distributing a controlled substance near schools and one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and bond was set at $50,000. Patrick Ford was charged with one felony count distributing a controlled substance near schools and bond was set at $50,000.
