An accident happened at 1:20 in the afternoon on December 26^th on Highway 32 about a mile east of Salem that took the life of a Salem man. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Dodge 1500 driven by 20-year old Michael Flint of Salem, was traveling westbound on Highway 32 and attempted to avoid a vehicle that was turning onto a county road. The Dodge 1500 crossed into the eastbound lane of Highway 32, and struck head-on a 1996 Ford Ranger driven by 18-year old Barry K. Cahill of Salem. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. The vehicle tuning into the county road was not involved in the accident. Flint was pronounced dead at 1:40 by the Dent County Coroner, Eddie Wilson. Flint’s body was taken to the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Cahill suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem Ambulance. According to the highway patrol, Flint was not wearing a seat restraint when the accident happened. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened on Tuesday, December 23^rd at 12:20 on Highway 8 about five miles from St. James that eventually took the life of a St. Louis woman. According to the highway patrol report, 51-year old Victoria O’Ferrell of St. Louis was driving a 2004 Jeep eastbound when she lost control on the slick roadway and went off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. O’Ferrell suffered serious injuries from the accident and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center before being transferred to St. Johns Hospital in St. Louis where she passed away at 1:45 on December 26^th. The vehicle was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles and Sons. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of accident.

An accident happened on Saturday evening around 6:55 in Dent County on Route H about five miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Ford Focus driven by 45-year old Martin Fortune of Salem, traveled off the right side of the road and struck a bridge. Fortune suffered minor injuries and sought his own treatment. Fortune was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Whitakers Towing of Salem.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving assault, a burglary and theft. On Monday, December 22^nd at 4:20 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the Dent County Fire Department in reference to an assault. The report revealed that a 24-year old Salem female had assaulted a 19-year old Salem female. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Wednesday, December 24^th at 6:26 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 800 block of West Glendale in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown forcibly entered a residence and took an X-Box 360 rock band game valued at $199. Later that same evening at 8:42 p.m. an officer was sent to the 1000 block of East Monday in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a vehicle and took a purse and its contents with an approximate value of $550. On Thursday, December 25th at 12:01 an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of South Pershing in reference to an assault. The report revealed that an 18-year old Salem male had assaulted a 67-year old Salem male. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Also arrested in connection with the assault was a 38-year old Salem male. He was issued a summons to appear in court for disorderly conduct and released. Anyone with any information regarding the burglaries or thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to remind the public of the following closings for driver examination stations throughout the state. In observance of the New Year’s holiday, the driver examination station will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2009. Normal operations will resume on Friday, January 2, 2009.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers lost to Richland in the Lebanon Tournament by the score of 66-49. The Lady Tigers are now 3-4 on the year and will play tomorrow morning at 10:00.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will play in the 2008 US Bank Holiday Tournament in Rolla starting today. The Tigers will face Festus in the first round starting at 4:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com. If Salem wins, they play Tuesday against the winner of the Waynesville and St. Joe Benton game at 7:00, and if they lose, they will play the loser of the game on Tuesday at 4:00.

The 25^th ranked Missouri Football Tigers will face 22^nd ranked Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl tonight starting at 6:00 with the pre-game show on KSMO. Missouri enters the game at 9-4 on the year with a two game losing streak. Northwestern is 9-3 on the year.

Jerious Norwood's second touchdown run of the game, coming with 3:41 left in regulation, was the difference as Atlanta slipped past St. Louis, 31-27, at the Georgia Dome. Marc Bulger finished with 230 passing yards and one touchdown on 19-of-32 throws for the Rams (2-14), who lost their 10th consecutive contest. Steven Jackson racked up 161 yards and two TDs on 30 carries. Torry Holt caught six balls for 90 yards while Donnie Avery had five catches for 40 yards and a touchdown reception.

Cedric Benson rushed for 111 yards on 25 carries and scored a touchdown while Shayne Graham booted three field goals as Cincinnati beat Kansas City, 16-6, at Paul Brown Stadium. Tyler Thigpen threw for 191 yards and a score on 19-of-36 completions for the Chiefs (2-14), who finished the year by losing their final four. Dwayne Bowe recorded a game-best 10 catches for 103 yards and Tony Gonzalez had a late TD reception for Kansas City.

Bobby Ryan scored the go-ahead goal with 7:11 remaining in the third period and Jonas Hiller made a key save with three seconds left as the Anaheim Ducks edged the St. Louis Blues, 4-3, at Scottrade Center. Keith Tkachuk and David Perron led the St. Louis offensive attack with a goal and an assist each, while Brad Boyes lit the lamp. The Blues have dropped eight of 10. Chris Mason made 25 saves in goal for St. Louis. The Blues will host New Jersey on Tuesday night.
