The Salem R-80 Board of Education met Tuesday evening to form a search committee to be used for the purpose of finding a new Superintendent for the Salem R-80 school district. After a lengthy presentation on how to go about finding the right superintendent as ell as numerous questions and discussion among Board members, the Board voted 4-3 to hire Consultant John Boise of Superintendent Search Services with the Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA). The cost of hiring MSBA is 7% of the Superintendents first year’s salary, plus there will be extensive advertisings within the state of Missouri and possibly surrounding states, mailings and phone calls totaling from $1,000 to $1,500. Boise reported that he does about 25 to 30 searches a year, and if the candidate does not work out after the first year, MSBA would conduct another search for free. MSBA would work through the process of receiving applications, doing background checks, and interviewing staff as well as getting input from the public. The Salem R-80 Board of Education expects to have made their choice and have hired a new Superintendent by the end of February 2012. The meeting was then adjourned.
