An accident happened in Reynolds County on Route KK about five miles east of Bunker Monday afternoon about 4:00. According to the highway patrol report, 22-year old Scott Selle of Black was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am northbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. Selle overcorrected and the Pontiac began to skid before traveling off the right side of the roadway where it overturned. Selle suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The Pontiac was left at the scene. Selle was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident occurred at 11:40 Monday morning In Phelps County on I-44 eastbound at the 173.6 mile-marker that took the life a Sellersburg, Indiana man. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Freightliner driven by 53-year old Ronald Hill traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, became entangled in the guardrail, traveled off of the shoulder, and overturned. Hill was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead at 12:23 by Dr. Elder. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Freightliner was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by C & C Towing.

An accident occurred at 5:15 Sunday morning in Iron County on Highway 49 about a mile south of Viburnum. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by 63 year-old Lonnie Coplin of Steelville slid off the left side of the ice covered roadway and struck a tree. Coplin suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Bolivar. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Explorer sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing of Viburnum.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell and District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson both reported that crews would be busy spreading sand and salt on hills and slick spots around the county. Commissioner Purcell also said that new tires would be put on a grader and Commissioner Larson said that one crewmember would be helping with the building addition on the county shed. At the previous meeting, Ted Cunningham with the Dent County Extension Center came by to discuss the extension center’s 2011 budget request of $37,000, which is the same as last year.  The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Thursday evening, December 16th at 9:10, an officer was detailed to the Salem Bowling Center in reference to a stolen cell phone.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took an I-phone with a pink case valued at $100. On Saturday, December 18th at 12:20 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of East Center in reference to damage to private property. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged solar lights valued at $30. On Sunday evening, December 19th at 6:29, an officer was sent to the 100 block of North Rhodes in reference to a theft from a vehicle.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a black 2006 GMC Sierra truck and took a Tom Tom GPS valued at $100. On Tuesday morning, December 23rd at 12:24, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 27-year old male of Coffeen, Illinois for driving while intoxicated and driving while having his license suspended. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. At 1:35 that afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 1400 block of West Franklin in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 34-year old Salem female for possession of drug paraphernalia. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Sesquicentennial Committee is sponsoring a semi-formal “Snow Ball” dance to be held January 22nd at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. There will be a DJ with dancing, a video with 2010 events and photo props will be available to commemorate the event. The ONCRC will be decorated with a snow and ice theme. Dress for men should be suits and ladies should wear a cocktail dress. Tickets will be available starting January 3rd for $15.00 if bought before January 18thn and $20 at the door. The Warrensburg Tigers pulled away in the third quarter yesterday from a 23-20 halftime lead and beat Salem, 55-32 at the US Bank Holiday Invitational Tournament in Rolla. Salem was led in scoring by Jonathan Hambacker with 12 points. Salem is 1-5 on the year and will play this afternoon at 4:00 in the second round of the tournament. The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will play today at Lebanon at 2:30 against Richland in the Boswell Gym. The Lady Tigers are 1-5 on the year.

Marcus Denmon led a balanced attack with 24 points, as the 10th-ranked Missouri Tigers annihilated the Northern Illinois Huskies, 97-61, at Mizzou Arena. Matt Pressey added 18 points and five rebounds in Mike Anderson's 100th victory as head coach of the Tigers (12-1), who have won seven in a row. Anderson has compiled a 100-47 record since coming to Missouri in March 2006.

The Missouri Tigers (10-2, Co-Big 12 North Champs) and Iowa Hawkeyes (7-5) face off in the 2010 Insight Bowl at Sun Devil Stadium tonight. You can hear the game starting with the pre-game show at 8:00 on KSMO.

Funeral services for Melvin William Flint of Salem, age 82, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Clarence Raymond Sites of Cuba, age 83 will be held this morning at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Cuba. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Rick Harper of Bunker, age 52, will be held today at 2:00 at the United Baptist Tabernacle in Bunker. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Harper family for funeral expenses. All arrangements are under the direction of the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker.

Funeral services for Lester Moore of Rolla, age 66, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Garden in rural Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Rolla Optimist Childhood Cancer Fund or Tri County Humane Society.
