An accident happened in Reynolds County on Route KK about five miles east of Bunker Monday afternoon about 4:00. According to the highway patrol report, 22-year old Scott Selle of Black was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am northbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. Selle overcorrected and the Pontiac began to skid before traveling off the right side of the roadway where it overturned. Selle suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The Pontiac was left at the scene. Selle was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell and District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson both reported that crews would be busy spreading sand and salt on hills and slick spots around the county. Commissioner Purcell also said that new tires would be put on a grader and Commissioner Larson said that one crewmember would be helping with the building addition on the county shed. At the previous meeting, Ted Cunningham with the Dent County Extension Center came by to discuss the extension center’s 2011 budget request of $37,000, which is the same as last year.  The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Thursday evening, December 16th at 9:10, an officer was detailed to the Salem Bowling Center in reference to a stolen cell phone.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took an I-phone with a pink case valued at $100. On Saturday, December 18th at 12:20 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of East Center in reference to damage to private property. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged solar lights valued at $30. On Sunday evening, December 19th at 6:29, an officer was sent to the 100 block of North Rhodes in reference to a theft from a vehicle.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a black 2006 GMC Sierra truck and took a Tom Tom GPS valued at $100. On Tuesday morning, December 23rd at 12:24, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 27-year old male of Coffeen, Illinois for driving while intoxicated and driving while having his license suspended. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. At 1:35 that afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 1400 block of West Franklin in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 34-year old Salem female for possession of drug paraphernalia. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Sesquicentennial Committee is sponsoring a semi-formal “Snow Ball” dance to be held January 22^nd at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. There will be a DJ with dancing, a video with 2010 events and photo props will be available to commemorate the event. The ONCRC will be decorated with a snow and ice theme. Dress for men should be suits and ladies should wear a cocktail dress. Tickets will be available starting January 3^rd for $15.00 if bought before January 18thn and $20 at the door.
