The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. Commissioners Dennis Purcell and Gary Larson both reported that District 1 and 2 crews are busy making sure equipment is ready for snow removal. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that next Thursday the county will pay the last bills of the year and would then like to look in to the idea of paying the Judicial Building Annex off next year. The county purchased the building for $70,000, paid $12,000 down and financed it through Parker & Weaver for 6.5% per year. The county has made one payment of $12,000 and the next payment is due in February. Skiles said the payoff would be $51,765 and that amount would come out of the counties General Revenue budget under capital expenses. The Commission said they would discuss the idea more during the next week’s meetings. At 10:00 last Thursday morning, James Coffman and Ed Pratt of the IDA Board met with the Commission to update them on IDA activity. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and is open to the public.

An accident occurred on Sunday, December 6^th at 3:00 in the afternoon on Askins Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Barbara Mounce of Salem was attempting to turn left onto Askins Street, failed to negotiate the turn, and struck a tree. There were no injuries reported. The Mercury Sable sustained extensive damage. Mounce was arrested for driving while intoxicated and driving while having her license suspended.

An accident happened Christmas Eve at 6:25 on Route K about 10 miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Dodge 2500 driven southbound by Maria J. Burton of Jadwin, swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway but struck the deer, then went off the left side of the roadway. Burton suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem Ambulance. There was minor damage to the truck and it was driven from the scene.

An accident occurred at 12:40 Friday afternoon in Crawford County on Highway 19 about six miles north of Cuba. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Chevrolet driven by 72-year old Norman Goudeau of Steelville, was traveling north on Highway 19. The accident occurred as the driver lost control of the vehicle on the snow covered roadway, slid across the centerline and went off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then overturned in the ditch. Norman Goudeau and an occupant, 70-year old Franncoise Goudeau of Steelville, both suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan by the North Crawford County EMS. Only Norman Goudeau was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Miles Towing.

An accident occurred at 5:25 in the evening on Wednesday, December 23^rd in Phelps County on Highway 68 about 1.7 miles east of Highway 8. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Cadillac Deville driven by 85-year old Cordell Watson of St. James, was traveling around a curve, when he traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a tree before coming to rest. Watson received moderate injuries and was transported by the St. James ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Also suffering moderate injuries was his wife, 82-year old Dormalee Watson of St. James, who was also transported by the St. James ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Cadillac was totaled and was towed by Spurgeon’s Towing.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will face Rogers, Arkansas today when they participate in the US Bank and Rolla High School Invitational Tournament. The game will be held at 5:30 at the Rolla High School Gym. If Salem wins, they would play at 7:00 on Tuesday; and if they lose, they will play at 4:00 on Tuesday. The Salem Lady Tigers will be back in action as they will participate in the Lebanon Tournament. The varsity will face Lebanon in the opening round this morning at 11:30 at the Boswell Gym. The JV will also participate in the Lebanon Tournament and they will face Conway at 10:00 this morning at the Carr Gym.

Kim English scored 23 points to lead the Missouri Tigers to a 94-79 victory over the Austin Peay Governors in a non-league affair at Mizzou Arena. Marcus Denmon added 17 points for Missouri (9-3), while Michael Dixon contributed 12 points in the win. The Tigers went into the break with a 51-35 advantage after shooting 65.6 percent from the field, and connecting on 8-of-13 three-point attempts in the first half. Missouri continued its strong play in the second stanza, as the team shot a sizzling 57.7 percent from the floor, en route to the 15-point win. The Tigers were unstoppable in this matchup, as the team connected on 62.1 percent of its attempts from the field, and also made 10-of-19 shots from behind the arc. Missouri will face UMKC Wednesday night.

Tim Connolly and Mike Grier each notched a pair of scores as Buffalo used a three-goal third period to get past St. Louis, 5-3, at Scottrade Center. Alex Steen scored twice and Eric Brewer once for the Blues, who lost for the second time since a three-game win streak. Ty Conklin suffered the loss, tagged for all five goals on 24 shots. The Blues host Nashville Tuesday night.

Chad Ochocinco's touchdown catch with 2:03 left in the fourth quarter was the difference, as the Cincinnati Bengals clinched the AFC North title with a 17-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Matt Cassel was 22-of-37 for 180 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, as the Chiefs (3-12) lost their fifth consecutive game. Jamaal Charles had 102 rushing yards, while fullback Tim Castille recorded the first receiving touchdown of his career.

Kurt Warner tossed two touchdowns and became just the second player in NFL history to throw at least 100 TDs for two teams, as the NFC West-champion Cardinals earned their third consecutive season sweep of pitiful St. Louis behind a 31-10 decision. Keith Null was picked off three times and logged 171 yards on 20-of-31 attempts for the Rams (1-14), owners of the worst record in the league following their seventh straight loss.

Funeral services for Cecil Leon Breeding of Vichy, age 65, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in rural Rolla.

Funeral services for Effie Bobbie Pines of Phoenix Arizona, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Selena Jane White of Salem, age 15 days, will be held this afternoon at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Alpha Vitzthum of Rolla, age 97, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 1;00 until service time on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rolla.

Funeral services for Edith Devall of Salem, age 83, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Funeral services for Clara J. Moreland of Rolla, age 87, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
