An accident occurred Friday afternoon at 4:57 in Franklin County on westbound Interstate 44, about two miles west of Stanton. According to the highway patrol report, the accident occurred when an eastbound 1998 Ford F-150, driven by 49-year old Ronald Wallace of St. Louis, crossed through the center median, causing debris to fly through the air striking a westbound 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo, driven by 54-year old Sandra Robinson of Bourbon. The Ford F-150 then entered the west bound lanes and struck a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by 24-year old Miranda Ellsworth of St. Louis, head-on, which in turn stuck a 2005 Nissan Quest, driven by 44-year old Pablo Nevarez of Cicero, Illinois. Miranda Ellsworth was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, and half-brother, 15-year old William Thompson of St. Louis was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:40 p.m. Two-year old Virginia Thornton, Ellsworth’s daughter, had serious injuries and was taken to the Cardinal Glennon Hospital by Air Evac. Also injured in the accident was Ronald Wallace with serious injuries, he was taken to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur by Arch air ambulance. The Ford F-150 and the Pontiac Grand Prix were totaled in the accident. The Monte Carlo had minor damage, and the Nissan had moderate damage.

Another accident happened on Saturday around 2:30 in the afternoon in Crawford County on RT. V in Davisville. According to the Highway Patrol report a 2001 GMC Sierra driven by 47-year old Terry Dumke of Viburnum, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Dumke suffered minor injuries and was taken by Quad County Ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Hospital in Rolla. The vehicle was totaled in the accident and was taken from the scene by Abneys Towing of Viburnum.

An accident happened on Saturday around 3:45 in the morning in Dent County on road 322 about ½ north of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2002 Chevrolet driven by 27-year old Matthew Pollard of Salem, was driving too fast for the road condition and lost control of his vehicle and went off the roadway striking a embankment, went through a fence, then overturned several times, ejecting the occupant. The vehicle then came to rest on its top in a field. Suffering serious injuries was occupant Billy Pollard who was taken by private vehicle from the accident and the Air Evaced to St.Johns in Springfield. The vehicle was totaled and was removed by Knight Towing of Salem.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the winners of the Christmas Decorating Contest. The first place winners of $100 are Kurt & Beverly Irons on Highway 32 East, about 2 to 3 miles out on the left. The second place winner of $50 was Donna Phillips who lives down Route P about 1 and 1/8 mile down on the right.  The third place winner of $25 was Larry and Linda Hanger at 1509 S. Wines. There were ten entries total. Congratulations to our winners and thanks to all who participated in the contest.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will face St. Joe-Benton tonight at 8:30 in the US Bank-Rolla Invitational Holiday Tournament at the Rolla High School Gym. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Rolla-Rogers. Arkansas game at 8:30 tomorrow night, and the losers of the two games will play at 5:30 tomorrow afternoon at the Rolla High School Gym. You can hear the games on KSMO Radio.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers have the day off after capturing a bye in the first round of the Lebanon Basketball Tournament. They will face Eugene tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 at the Boswell Gymnasium in Lebanon. If Salem wins, they will play at 6:30 Friday night, and if they lose, they will play at 3:30 Friday in Lebanon.

The Missouri Football Tigers will face Oregon State Friday afternoon at 1:00 in the Brut Sun Bowl. The pre-game begins at noon and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Alexander Radulov scored the game-winning goal in a shootout to lift Nashville over St. Louis, 3-2, at Gaylord Entertainment Center. In the fourth round of a scoreless shootout, Radulov used a backhand shot and beat Manny Legace glove side to give the Predators their second straight victory and eight out of nine overall. Radek Dvorak and Bill Guerin scored goals for the Blues, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Legace stopped 27 shots in defeat. The Blues will be in Colorado Friday night.

The Blues' Manny Legace garnered the second star of the week issued by the NHL after also notching three wins with a 1.69 GAA and a .930 save percentage for the Blues. The highlight of his week came December 23 with a 21-save effort in a 3-2 overtime triumph over Eastern Conference-leading Buffalo.

Funeral services for Lorene Eaton of Davisville, MO, age 88, will be this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Interment will be in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery in Viburnum. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Church or Upper Indian Creek Cemetery.

Funeral services for Erma Kinsley of Rolla, age 82, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will from 11:00 until time of funeral. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials suggested to Ridgeview Christian Church.

Funeral services for Elsie Lorene Ellis of Salem, age 82, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Elsie Ellis Family.

Funeral services for Gerald Ferguson of Salem, age 68, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the Fox Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Ellington Memorial Cemetery in Ellington.

Funeral services for Miranda Ellsworth of Breckenridge, MO, age 24, and William Thompson, age 15, of St. Louis, will both be held Friday, December 29th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis. Interment will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may made to the Miranda Ellsworth Fund or William Thompson Fund

Graveside services for Katherine “Tootsie” Marie Lay of Holden Mo., age 31, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden. Memorials are suggested to Allen & Logan Mahurin Trust Fund.
