Cody Whitaker netted 33 points including a key 3-pointer late in the game that put Salem ahead for good as the Boys Basketball Tigers evened their record at 2-2 on the year with a 51-47 win over the Potosi Trojans Friday night. Whitaker finished with six 3-pointers in the game. The Tigers will be off until Monday, December 30th when they will host the St. James Tigers in a makeup game starting at 6:00 with the JV contest with the varsity game to follow.
The Lady Tigers will participate in the Lebanon Tournament starting at 1:00 on Thursday against Buffalo. Salem is seeded 5th in the tournament and they go into the game with a 1-4 on the year.
Tracy Abrams scored 22 points, the last two on a pair of foul shots with 4.6 seconds remaining that lifted Illinois to a 65-64 win over No. 23 Missouri in the Braggin' Rights game on Saturday. Jordan Clarkson led Missouri with 25 points and eight assists, Ross scored 13 and Jabari Brown added 10 points. Missouri will play at North Carolina State on Saturday and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 6:30.
Chris Stewart registered his third career hat trick to back Brian Elliott's shutout performance in the St. Louis Blues' 6-0 thrashing of the lowly Edmonton Oilers. Stewart set up another goal, while Elliott made 23 saves. The Blues will be in Calgary tonight to face the Flames and you can hear it on KSMO starting at 7:30.
The St. Louis Rams leaned on a pair of rookies to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 23-13, from the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday. Zac Stacy carried the ball a career-high 33 times for 104 yards and a touchdown, while fellow rookie Stedman Bailey added a 27-yard touchdown run for St. Louis (7-8), which has won two straight. The Rams play the Seahawks on Sunday.
Donald Brown scored two touchdowns and the AFC South-champion Indianapolis Colts beat the Kansas City Chiefs by a 23-7 margin. Alex Smith connected on 16-of-29 passes for 153 yards and two interceptions for the Chiefs (11-4), who are locked into the fifth seed. The Chiefs will be in San Diego on Sunday to play the Chargers.
The Baltimore Orioles have acquired outfielder David Lough from the Kansas City Royals for infielder Danny Valencia. Valencia hit .304 with eight homers and drove in 23 runs last season. The 29-year-old is a career .263 hitter with 156 RBI and 66 doubles over five seasons.
