The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports for December 11th through the 18th involving thefts. On December 11th at 3:34 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff’s department received a report of 29 head of yearling cattle stolen from a farm located on Dent County Road 313. The theft was reported to have occurred the middle of November. On December 14th the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a red 14-foot metal gate taken from an entry located on Dent County Road 549. The gate was reported taken the first part of November. On December 18th at 12:10 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report that a crew cab, 4X4 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was taken from a residence located off of Dent County Road 240B. The vehicle was located in Ripley County and a 31-year old female is being detained for Dent County pending a warrant for motor vehicle theft. Also on the 18th, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report of two reels of #4 XLP wire being taken from a power sub-station located off of Highway 19 North. The wire is valued at $2,000. The incident is reported to have occurred the middle of December. Entry to the sub-station was gained by cutting the fence. The Salem Police Department released their reports for December 13th through the 18th involving traffic violations and accidents. On December 13th at 10:20 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 31-year old male from Farmington for driving while intoxicated. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On December 14th at 1:21 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a one-vehicle accident at Pershing and Gibbs Streets n Salem. Investigation of the accident led to the arrest of a 54-year old male from Licking for driving while intoxicated and on a fugitive warrant from Texas County. He was incarcerated on the Texas County warrant and the pending application of a warrant for a DWI. On December 16th at 9:34 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 41-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. On December 16th at 1:19 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Pershing and Franklin in reference to a traffic accident. The report revealed that a 25-year old Salem male was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will hold their regular meeting tonight beginning at 6:00 pm in the district administrative offices boardroom. After the approval of the agenda, the board will adjourn for an executive session before the regular meeting begins to discuss personnel. The regular meeting will include Board of Education member recognition. The consent agenda will consist of approval of the minutes from the previous meeting as well as approval of bills, the food service report, the attendance report and the substitute list. Superintendent Steve Bryant will discuss legislative issues, give a CEE update, discuss the Dent County School Administrator’s meeting, talk about the local MUSIC Scholarship nominee and then Bryant will recognize former Salem Superintendent Stan Johnson. New business will include the interview and selection of a new board of education member to fulfill Mark Nash’s term, then give the oath of office to the new board of education appointee. The board will hear several program evaluations including vocational education and community education, and get a report on Multiple Intelligences from Mrs. Wisdom. The board will address the MUSIC insurance renewal, budget amendments, resignations, student drug testing, a Missouri State board of education appointment and personnel assignments. The board will then adjourn and go into executive session to discuss personnel and discipline. The regular meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The City of Salem Winter Youth Basketball Program is just around the corner. Sign-ups will be held in the evening today and tomorrow from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. All sign-ups will be held in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center, formerly the National Guard Armory. These will be the ONLY sign-ups for the Winter Basketball Program. This league is for all boys and girls that are currently enrolled in the 1st through the 6th grade. The cost is $15 per child. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be back in action today at the Farmington High School Gym starting at 5:30. The Tigers are 2-4 on the year and this is a make-up game from the Farmington Tournament that was iced out earlier this year. KSMO will NOT be airing the game due to prior commitments.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Los Angeles Kings tonight starting at 7:00 at the Scottrade Center. The Blues ended their 11 game losing streak on Tuesday night and look to stop an seven game home losing streak. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals signed pitcher David Riske to a one-year contract with an option for 2008 on Wednesday. Last season Riske, 30, was 1-2 with a 3.89 earned run average in 41 appearances with Boston and the Chicago White Sox.

Funeral services for Barbara Clendenin of Steelville, age 100, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Steelville.

A Memorial service for Teresa Lynn Phillips of Springfield, formerly of Salem, age 28, will be held Saturday, December 23rd at 9:00 at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Springfield. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
