The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse.  In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that the temperatures Wednesday night and Thursday morning stayed warm enough to avoid slick road conditions in his district and that he was very thankful.  He went on to say that his crews were doing shop maintenance, checking and replacing county road signs, and picking up old tires.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson echoed Purcell’s comments and added that he had a crew checking for slick spots on some hills in the northern part of the county, plus checking for and replacing road signs and doing maintenance tasks.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the Commission received notification that the BRO allocation for the first eight months of 2015 was $10,183.93.  BRO funding for the balance of the year will be addressed by the next session of Congress.  Skiles also noted that the Commissioners went to Emminence Monday afternoon to learn about Shannon County’s EPM System at the Courthouse.  The energy management system is projected to save them about 40% in 2015.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that her office was continuing to work on the budget, as well as year-end reports and that bills were to be approved.  Curley also reported that according to State Law any voter who had not voted in the last two federal elections and had their voter registration card returned by the postal service was to be removed from the voter records in her office.  She added that the Commissioners were reviewing the Dent County Collector’s Monthly Report for November.  Dent County Collector Denita Williams brought in the depository bids from the local banks.  Only the Bank of Salem and Progressive Ozark Bank submitted bids.  The Bank of Salem’s bid was for point one percent for one year, while Progressive Ozark’s bid was for point two five percent for one year.  The Commissioners asked Treasurer Williams to contact the two institutions and request a bid for two years.  The Bank of Salem’s two-year bid was point two percent, while Progressive Ozark Bank’s bid was point four percent for two years.  The Commissioners voted 3-0 to accept the Progressive Ozark bid of point four percent for two years.  A hearing was conducted to amend the Road and Bridge Department Budget to reflect the additional income and expense of $90,000 on the new bridge.  The amendment is to reflect offsetting amounts of $90,000 additional expense and $90,000 additional revenue.  The amendment was approved 3 – 0.  The Commissioners voted 3 – 0 to approve the bills.  The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department submitted a report on an accident that occurred on Tuesday, December 9th at 9:38 in the morning.  According to the report, a 1987 Chevrolet S-10 driven by Lucas Burkholder of Salem was eastbound on Highway 32 approaching Highway 19.  Meanwhile, a 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by William Monday of Bunker was traveling west on Highway 32 also approaching Highway 19.  The Chevrolet attempted a left turn on to Highway 19 on a flashing yellow light and failed to yield to the Dodge.  The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was towed by Whitaker’s Towing.  The Dodge sustained extensive damage and was driven from the scene.

Lane Duncan scored 31 points including 11 in the decisive 4th quarter to lead the Licking Wildcats to a 68-60 win over the Salem Tigers capturing the Big Cat Classic Trophy for the 4th straight year. Nathan Wilson scored 15 and Aaron Wilson added 14 more for the Wildcats. Salem was led by Logan Wolff and Kobe Mead with 17 points each followed by Zayne Kyser who finished with 10. Salem falls to 4-3 on the year and they will be off until December 29th when they face Columbia Hickman in the Rolla Holiday Invitational Tournament at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

Jeff Carter, Jake Muzzin and Dwight King each scored in the third period, as the Los Angeles Kings rallied to beat the St. Louis Blues 6-4 on Thursday night. David Backes, Dmitrij Jaskin and Kevin Shattenkirk scored in a 2:48 span in the first period for St. Louis, which had a five-game winning streak snapped. Martin Brodeur was beaten six times on 37 shots. The Blues will be in San Jose Saturday to face the Sharks and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 9:00.

The Missouri Tiger basketball team will play the Illinois Fighting Illini this Saturday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis for the 34th Annual Bragging Rights Game. Missouri is 5-5 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 12:30.

The St. Louis Rams will host the New York Giants this Sunday while the Kansas City Chiefs will be in Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. The Chiefs game kicks off at noon while the Rams game will get under way at 3:05. St. Louis is 6-8 on the year while Kansas City is 8-6.

Funeral services for William “Bill” Young of Viburnum, age 62, was held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment was in the Young Family Cemetery in Davisville.

Graveside memorial services for Susan Irene Connell of Salem, age 63, was held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Louise Marie Martin of Bunker, age 74, was held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment wias in the Greeley Cemetery near Bunker. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Breast Cancer Association.

Funeral services for Edward Eugene Kellison of Edgar Springs, age 89, wias held Saturday at noon at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment was in the Roseberry Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter.

A memorial service for Neal Tullis, Jr. of Salem, age 64, was held Saturday at noon at the Anutt Community Church. Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund at the Memorial Service.  The family will collect the contributions and forward them to the Fund.

A private graveside service for Rosemary Dillon of St. James, age 85, will be held Monday December 22nd. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 at Rosemary’s home. Memorials may be made to the St. James Memorial Public Library. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.

Funeral services for June Marion Swope, age 86 of St. Louis, formerly of Salem, will be Monday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the First Church of God in Salem or Cornerstone Community Church of God in St. Louis.

Funeral services for Harold Thomas of Salem, age 90, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Monday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem Public Library, the Salvation Army or the church of your choice.

 Funeral services for Katherine E. Martens of Vichy, age 76, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 the church. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Billy Don Stites of Steelville, age 73, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Monday. Interment will be in the Cherryville Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherryville.

Funeral services for Ervin Franklin “Frankie” Piatt of Salem, age 64, will be held Tuesday at noon at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:30 AM until service time. Interment will be in the Lone Pine-Piatt Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Piatt family for funeral expenses.

A memorial service for James Jenschke of Salem, age 87, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
