Personnel from the Ozark Heritage Project will be at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory at 1200 West Rolla Road tonight from 5:00 until 8:00 to allow anyone interested in making comments on the Ozark National Scenic Riverways Draft Management Plan created by the National Park Service. The Ozark Heritage Project is dedicated to the preservation of the river culture as well as the environment. All opinions are welcome and volunteers will be there to assist persons with the use of a computer to get online and submit their comments in a friendly environment. There will also be letter writing materials and form letters with addressed envelopes for those who prefer to submit their comments in writing. The Ozark Heritage Project will provide light refreshments. If you enjoy utilizing the riverways to ride horses, fish, trap, picnic, camp, go gigging, even to perform baptisms in the stream, make sure that your opinions and comments on the draft management plan is known. The Salem Park Board will conduct a meeting today at the Salem Freedom Center beginning at 12:00 (noon). The Salem Park Board will hear a report of Parks & Recreation Director Greg Nash and then the Board will address the winter sports program, the spring sports program and City sponsored tournaments. The Salem Park Board meeting is open to the public. 

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their December meeting tonight at the boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Steve Carvajal will update the Board on the candidate filings and the building projects. Principals from each of the buildings will then report on various issues at each facility. In new business, the Board will discuss summer school for 2014, address the selection of the MSBA Belcher Scholarship recipient and discuss the MUSIC renewal. The Board will then vote to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The meeting of the Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Monday, December 2nd at 3:35, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone stole $1,160 in cash from a deposit bag. That evening at 7:40, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen vehicle. That investigation revealed that a vehicle was loaned to a 54-year old Salem female and has not been returned. On Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:45 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took an iPhone 4, valued at $450, from a gym locker at the Salem High School. On Wednesday, December 4th at 3:00 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of North Grand in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone entered a garage and took 11 fishing rods and reels, valued at $3,300. Later that night at 9:15, officers were conducting a narcotics investigation at a residence in the 800 block of East Ellis. The investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year old Salem male for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Thursday, December 5th at 10:15 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a purse and contents, valued at $200, was taken from a bench at Walmart. On Friday, December 6th at 10:52 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 36-year old Salem male in the 800 block of South Sligo, who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County.  He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending a court appearance. Later that same day at 1:43, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was given a date to appear in court and released after posting bond. On Saturday, December 7th at 7:14 in the evening, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 33-year old Rolla male for stealing merchandise valued at $1,568.72. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Monday, December 9th at 11:30 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 33-year old Washington male near the intersection of Rolla and Grand who had an active arrest warrant from Franklin County. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending extradition. Later that night at 7:18, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 300 block of North Russell in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that a 20-year old Salem female had intentionally damaged property, valued at $300.  She was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. On Wednesday, December 11th at 1:30 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to forgery and theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a checkbook and a cell phone, valued at $500, from a residence in the 600 block of East First. Further investigation revealed the checks had been forged and cashed for approximately $500. Anyone with any information regarding the forgery and theft reports is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team will host the West Plains Zizzers tonight at the SHS gym. Salem is 1-1on the year and JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. You’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoraido.com.

The Salem Lady Tiger basketball squad will be in Newburg tonight to face the Lady Wolves. The Lady Tigers are 1-3 on the year. The JV will start off at 6:00 with the varisty to follow.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Scottrade Center. The Blues are 22-7-4 on the year and sit in second place in the Central Division. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM tonight starting at 6:30. KSMO will then cut away for the Salem game and play back the third period of Blues hockey following the conclusion of the Salem Tiger baketball game.

Funeral services for Jerry Usher of Morrisville, Mo., age 62, will be held at 2:00 today at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until service time. Interment will be in the Mounce Cemetery.

Funeral services for Wilbur McCarter of Salem, age 81, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Adam Shawn Akins of Salem, age 34, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Akins Family.

Funeral services for Tucker Lee Rutledge of Boss, age 4 months, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church in Boss. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
