Dent County Coroner Gina White has released her report for the death that occurred at the Dent County Jail this past Sunday. According to the report, Dr. Carl Stacy with the Boone County Medical Examiners Office performed an autopsy on 34-year old Jason Allen Hall on Monday. It was found that Hall had died as a result of asphyxiation due to hanging. His body was then released to the Bell Funeral Home in Pacific.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met for their regular meeting Tuesday evening at the hospital library. In the summary of operations, Chief Financial Officer Becky Cunningham reported that in November the hospital had a loss from operations of $103,654 with an excess of expenses over revenues of $102,160. Inpatient admissions were below budget at 49 and there was a decrease in cash of $259,181. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy reported during the month there were 749 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 121 minutes. Also during the month, there were 205 ambulance runs, 30 surgery cases, 1,442 outpatient registrations, 344 home health visits, 6,733 lab tests, 876 radiological procedures, 162 CT scans, 28 MRI scans, 453 rehab treatments, 160 dialysis treatments and 255 clinical visits of which 29 were for cardiology. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor said the hospital is having problems with their nuclear med machine and they are analyzing the data as to whether they should buy their own or lease another piece of equipment. In the flu update, Lacy said there have been nineteen confirmed cases for the month of December. Pryor stated the Hospital Auxiliary had nine members at their December meeting and Dr. Pharr presented his recent Haiti Mission trip. Pryor reported that Dr. Jasdanwala would begin his practice in Physician Building #3 on July 1, 2015.  He also reported that Dr. Bob Carnett will begin working part time January 8^th at the hospital, Sandra Headrick, Nurse Practitioner will begin February 2^nd and Physician’s Assistant Nathan Miracle will begin mid-March. Assistant Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas gave the Electronic Medical Records report and said the Patient Portal operational and patients will be able to review their hospital records online beginning January 2^nd. Pyror reported the SMDH Foundation Board met and talked about the Montauk 5K run to be held in November with Phil Newcomb serving as Chairman of this event. The hospital has received a $75,000 grant for network development and also a Telehealth System grant for new Telehealth equipment.  Pryor stated that there will be no increase in the employee health insurance this year and the Ozark Independent Health Alliance is looking into other providers for next year. Election filing for District #2 began today and incumbent A.J. Seay has filed. The board approved the budgeted purchase of two defibrillator/monitors for the EMS Department at a cost of $59,283 from Zoll Medical Corporation. The board then went into closed session.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their December meeting tonight at the boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Steve Carvajal will update the Board on the current candidate filings. Principals will then report on happenings and events taking place at their respective buildings. In new business the Board will address summer school for 2015, make a selection of the MSBA Belcher Scholarship recipient and address the MUSIC renewal. Following resignations, the Board will then adjourn their regular meeting and vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

Just a reminder, Flu Shots are still available at the Dent County Health Center on a walk-in basis, Monday through Friday. The cost is $30, and the Health Center will bill Medicare, but you need to bring your card with you. The Center for Disease Control recommends an annual flu shot for all those 6-months of age and over. The Health Center is located at 601 North MacArthur. For more information call 729-3106.

Other websites often charge fees and can put your personal information at risk. Treasurer Zweifel protects more than $822 million in Unclaimed Property for more than 4.8 million account owners. In Fiscal Year 2014, he returned a record $40 million to more than 170,000 Unclaimed Property accounts, all free of charge. You may also check for Unclaimed Property outside of Missouri at www.Unclaimed.org, administered by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.
