The Salem Police department released their reports involving speeding, assault and property damage. On Monday, December 8^th at 2:02 p.m. a vehicle was stopped for a speeding violation. The investigation during the stop revealed the driver, a 23-year old Sikeston man, had an active warrant for his arrest from Shannon County. The man was incarcerated pending extradition. On Tuesday, December 9^th at 12:26 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 700 block of East Tenth Street in reference to a domestic assault. The report led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem man on the domestic assault charge. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, December 11^th at 1:00 p.m. an officer was detailed to 1405 South Wines St. to the South Central Missouri Community Action Agency in reference to property damage. The report revealed between 8:00 am December 1^st and 12:00 pm December 11^th, an unknown vehicle had spun gravel from the parking lot and broke two windows of the building. On December 11^th at 10:20 p.m. an officer was sent to the 800 block of North Washington in reference to an assault. The report led to the arrest of a 35-year old Salem man for assault and damage to private property. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Saturday, December 13^th at 9:51 p.m. an officer was dispatched to 117 West Fourth Street to the Vandivort Drug Store in reference to property damage. The report revealed that the glass of the back door had been broken from the frame. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. At the meeting, Superintendent Steve Bryant will discuss the legislative priorities for 2009, address the local MUSIC/Dr. Darrell “Jack” Holley scholarship, the bond issue and building construction plans, and Board of Education candidate filings. In new business there will be a presentation by a published author on the CIA (curriculum, instruction and assessment) program and the Board will receive information on the AR (accelerated reader) program as well as program evaluations on vocational programs and community education. The Board will then address budget amendments, the Salem R-80 Foundation by-laws, the MUSIC insurance renewal, set a tentative graduation date, discuss the PLC calendar and address resignations. The Board will then adjourn and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing personnel and discipline. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

An accident happened in Dent County on Highway 32 about four miles west of Salem Wednesday afternoon about 4:40. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven eastbound by 44-year old Melvin L. Steele of West Plains, attempted to turn left into a private drive and collided head on with a westbound 1994 Buick Century driven by 70-year old Frederick Blankenship of Licking. Steele suffered minor injuries as did a passenger in Buick Century, 68-year old Gath Blankenship. Both sought their own medical treatment. Everyone involved in the accident were wearing seat restraints. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened at 3:38 Monday afternoon in Texas County on Route BB about six miles southwest of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Ford Mustang driven by 42-year old Stephanie Burgess of Licking was traveling westbound on Route BB. The Ford slid on the ice-covered roadway, ran off the road and struck a tree. An occupant in the Ford, 42-year old Roger Burgess suffered moderate injury and was taken by ambulance to Texas County Memorial. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Mustang was totaled and removed from the scene by A1 Towing.

The Dent County Schools, Salem R-80, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III and Northwood R-IV will all be closed for Christmas break, which will begin Monday, December 22^nd. Classes will resume on Monday, January 5^th.

The St. Louis Blues will try to end their four game losing streak tonight as they will be at Washington to face the Capitals starting at 6:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be of until Saturday when they face Stetson at 5:30. Missouri enters the game with an 8-1 record.

The Missouri Football Tigers will face Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl on December 29^th starting at 7:00.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will face Potosi Friday night at the SHS Gym starting at about 7:20. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio at about 7:10 with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip Karr. Salem is 2-3 going into the game.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host Newburg Friday night at the Upper Elementary Gymnasium with the JV starting at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow.
