Healthy Dent County is pleased to announce that they have reached their goal of raising nearly $500,000 to create the “Salem Community Center @ the Armory.” This campaign used the Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) to raise funds for this project. NAP helps not-for-profit organizations raise private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved community improvement projects. Donations from this Capital Campaign will benefit Healthy Dent County as they renovate and expand the Salem Freedom Activity Center into a Community Center (the former National Guard Armory) located at 1200 W. Rolla Road. Final plans for the construction will be drawn up and approved, and then construction will begin. Anticipated completion date of the initial phase is May 2014. The benefit to Dent County residents will be a permanent Community Center that will provide recreational and health benefits for all ages. The phase one of the project will be self-sustaining and includes a renovated multi-purpose gym area, updated entrances and restrooms and consolidation and expansion of the Salem Fitness Center. Additional phases for the facility will be constructed when funding is secured. Future phases the committee is considering include a new regulation size basketball gymnasium, racquetball court, rock-climbing wall, and indoor water park. For additional information on this or any Healthy Dent County project, please visit Sherry at the Armory or call 729-8163 or e-mail sherry@salemtcrc.com.
