The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, Commissioners Dennis Purcell and Gary Larson said that the work crews are spreading salt and sand on chip and seal roads as well as in subdivisions. Both districts have workers repairing brush cutters and both commissioners said they have workers helping at the Road and Bridge Department addition. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation meeting where they received an update on a number of programs. He also said that a new program has been introduced and that Luci Flaim is the administrator of the Energize Missouri Home program. This program is to help people make their home more energy efficient by providing rebates when they replace old windows and furnaces with new energy efficient products. An energy audit must be done first to find the problem areas that will qualify for the program. According to Skiles, a person can get a rebate of up to $10,000 toward the use of geo-thermal energy efficient heating and cooling systems. Other rebates are also available and Skiles said that there are no income restrictions. To find out more, Skiles said to speak with Luci Flaim at (573) 265-2993. At the last meeting, Allison Skare with Senator Claire McCaskill’s office came in to hear from the commissioners. They discussed the problems with the US Forest Service attempts to deny private landowners access to their properties, problems with the proposed closing of various trails and traces along the Current River in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways by the National Park Service, and concerns about the restrictions on the use of the Title III funds to maintain county roads in the Mark Twain National Forest. The commission also discussed their concern with the loss of jobs in the area. Also at the last meeting, Tom Van Hatten with the 100 Wood Acre Rally came by to update the commission on the race in February. Then Charlie Thomas from Viebrock Sales came in to update the price of culverts for 2011 and it appears there will be very little increase. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
