An accident happened Saturday around 7:45 in the morning in Dent County about one-half miles south of Lecoma. According to the Highway Patrol report, 23-year old Megan Kean of Lenox lost control of a 2004 Saturn on the ice-covered roadway, and the vehicle ran off the road where it struck a utility pole and several trees. Kean suffered moderate injuries in the accident and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Salem Ambulance. The vehicle was removed from the scene by C and C Towing. Kean was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident happened at 6:30 Saturday night in Dent County on Highway 72  about two miles south of Lake Springs. According to the Highway patrol report, a 2001 Kia Sportage driven by 28-year old Michelle Tiefenthaler of Salem, was parked attempting to re-enter traffic, when a 2004 Suzuki Forenza driven by 23-year old Dustin Green of Rolla, attempted to brake but lost control on the ice-covered roadway and struck the 2001 Kia Sportage. The 2001 Kia Sportage sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene by the owner. The 2004 Suzuki Forenza sustained extensive damage and was towed by Whitaker’s Towing. Suffering minor injuries in the accident was 18-year old Sara Lindsey of Salem, a passenger of the 2004 Suzuki Forenza. She was taken by a private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Everyone was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident happened at 6:50 Saturday Night in Dent County on Highway 72  about ten miles south of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Honda Civic driven by 35-year old Michelle Horvath of Salem was eastbound on Highway 72. Horvath lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tractor-trailer that left the scene of the accident. Injured in the accident were Horvath and a passenger in her vehicle, 19-year old Rose Bluhm of Salem. Both suffered minor injuries and were taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center by EMS. The 2001 Honda Civic was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by C and C Towing. They were both wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting today at the City Hall Council Chambers at 4:00 pm. After the approval of the consent agenda, Alderman Bill Riley, Mike Whitley, Jim Jackson and Jim McDaniels would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city. Mayor Gary Brown will then give his comments. During the Introduction and Reading of Bills, Bill #3113 an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to sign the Mutual Aid Agreement with the Missouri Public Utility Alliance, and Bill #3114 an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to sign the Mutual Aid Agreement with the American Public Power Association and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association will be presented. Also during bills, Bill #3114 an ordinance required to establish cyber-harassment as an offense and the punishment for violations and Bill #3116 an ordinance to approve the settlement against AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. will be addressed. In new and miscellaneous business, a budget adjustment will be made before the Mayor makes his recommendations for the appointment of the Airport Board, which is a requirement under the new Airport Board Ordinance. City Clerk Mary Happel had a meeting with the City’s insurance carrier and wants to advise the Board of the results of that meeting regarding the City’s liability, auto & property insurance and she will also present the bills for payment. The Board will then adjourn and go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman at 4:00 pm is open to the public.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers beat Newburg Friday night by the score of 52-37 as Natalie Howard scored 29 points and Jessica Brand added 14, both individual career highs. The Lady Tigers will travel to Cabool tonight where there will only be TWO JV quarters played before the varsity game. The shortened JV contest will start at 6:00.

The Salem Tigers game with St. Clair Saturday night was postponed due to snow. The game will be rescheduled at a later date.

 Matt Lawrence and Stefhon Hannah both had 14 points as the Missouri Tigers cruised to a 81-44 win over the McNeese State Cowboys at the Mizzou Arena Saturday. DeMarre Carroll shot 4 of 9 for Missouri, finishing with 11 points and 5 rebounds for the Tigers who are now 7-3.

The St. Louis Cardinals traded eight-time Gold Glove outfielder Jim Edmonds to the San Diego Padres on Saturday in exchange for 24-year-old third baseman prospect David Freese on Friday..

The St. Louis Blues acquired young forward Andy McDonald from the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. Heading to Anaheim in the deal is veteran center Doug Weight, prospect Michal Birner and a seventh-round draft pick in 2008.

Jarome Iginla scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the Calgary Flames beat the St. Louis Blues, 5-3, giving head coach Mike Keenan his 600th career NHL victory. Brad Boyes, Andy McDonald and Lee Stempniak lit the lamp for the Blues and Manny Legace turned aside 16 shots in defeat, their fourth straight loss. The Blues face Detroit on Thursday.

Brett Favre threw for 227 yards with two touchdowns and set another record, as the Green Bay Packers downed the St. Louis Rams, 33-14, at the Edward Jones Dome. Steven Jackson carried the ball 24 times for 143 yards with a touchdown for the Rams (3-11), who have lost two straight.

Vince Young threw for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Rob Bironas booted four field goals as Tennessee downed Kansas City, 26-17, at Arrowhead Stadium. Brodie Croyle completed 25-of-43 passes for 217 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the reeling Chiefs (4-10), who have lost seven straight games for the first time since 1987.

Funeral services for Eunice Hazel Blackwell of Salem, age 89, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church or Salem Public Library.

Funeral services for Clay Hahn of St. James, age 53, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to your choice of charity.

Funeral services for Denis Charles Kindel of Rolla, age 60, are incomplete at this time, but are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. 

Funeral services for Ernie R. Hutchens of Salem are incomplete, but are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
