The Salem R-80 Schools are closed today due to a propane line repairs.

The Salem Police Department released their report involving shoplifting and a traffic violation. On Wednesday morning, December 8th at 10:41, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 21-year old female and 33-year old female, both of Rolla, for stealing merchandise valued at $75.29. They were issued a summons to appear in court and were released. Later that evening at 5:37, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of 19-year old Tadd M. Mansfield of Salem for the manufacturing of a methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a synthetic narcotic (heroin), and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on $25,000 cash only bond on the methamphetamine charges and $7,000 bond on the heroin. An accident occurred at 5:15 pm on Thursday, December 9th on Highway 32 at Askins in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 1997 Nissan Maxima driven by Joy Farthing and owned by Rodney Farthing of Salem was traveling west on Highway 32 and proceeded to make a left turn on a green light, failing to yield, into the path of a 2005 Mazda driven by Sandra Headrick of Salem traveling east on Highway 32. Farthing had injuries evident at the scene, but refused medical attention, as both front air bags deployed on the Nissan. Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.

An accident occurred early Tuesday morning at 12:15 in Dent County on Route WW about five miles south of Gladden. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 34-year old Jesse Kohut of Salem was traveling westbound on Route WW, when the Chevrolet ran off the right side of the road and overturned. Kohut suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Silverado was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred at 10:30 Sunday morning in Dent County on Route K about ten miles southwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Oldsmobile Delta 88 driven by 17-year old Chelsae Wofford of Salem was traveling north on Route K. Wofford lost control while rounding a snow covered curve, ran off the right side of the road, came back onto the road and then ran off the left side of the roadway, where the Oldsmobile struck some trees. Wofford suffered moderate injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the Salem Memorial Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Oldsmobile sustained extensive damage and was to be removed by the owner. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to remind the public that driver examination stations throughout the state will be closed on Friday, December 24thin observance of Christmas. Normal operations will resume on Monday, December 27th and then on Friday, December 31st in observance of New Year’s Day. Normal operations will resume on Monday, January 3, 2011.

Jay Zalis scored 20 points to help lead the Rolla Bulldogs past the Salem Tiger Boys Basketball Team Tuesday night at the Salem High School Gym by the score of 68-47. Salem was led by Jacob Kettner with 18 points and Jonathan Hambacker with 13 points. Salem drops to 1-4 on the year and they will host Potosi this Friday night starting at 6:00 with the JV contest at the SHS High School Gym.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers were smoked by the West Plains Lady Zizzers Tuesday night by the score of 53-12 for their fifth straight defeat. The Lady Tigers will host Newburg Friday night at 6:00 at the Upper Elementary School Gym.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Detroit tonight to face the Red Wings starting at 6:30. The Blues have lost five of their last eight games. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Venessa Maize of Boss, age 36, will be held today at 11:00 at the Ohlman Baptist Church in Boss. Interment will be in the Corridon-Reynolds Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Memorials may be made to the Ohlman Baptist Church Youth Group.

Funeral services for Mary Glenn Crowley of Rolla, age 89, will be today at 11:00 at the St. Patrick Church in Rolla. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services for Nellie Burnett of Bunker, age 88, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Burnett Cemetery in Bunker. Memorials are suggested to the Sugar Tree Grove Baptist Church.

Memorial services for Bob Freeze Sr. of Licking, age 79, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Memorial may be made to the Licking Bridge Builders.

Funeral services for Anna Sumpter of Bunker, age 72, will be held Friday at noon at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery in Bunker. 

Funeral services for Shirley E. Goldner of Lenox, Iowa, formerly of Salem, age 55, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Hanson-Eaton Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials are suggested to the Hanson-Eaton Cemetery.

Funeral services for George E. Leonard of Salem, age 90, will be held Saturday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Corinth Baptist Church.

Memorial services for Art Abney of St. Charles, age 70, will be held Saturday at 12:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem.

A celebration of life for Dr. Jay Gordon Crump, age 60, will be held on Sunday, from 10:00 to 2:00 at the Oak Meadow Country Club in Rolla with a tribute service at noon. Memorials may be made to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center’s Foundation or the Jay Crump, DO Medical Scholarship Fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
