The Salem Memorial District Hospital regular board meeting was held Thursday evening at the Holiday Inn Express. For the month of November, the summary of operations showed revenues over expenses of  $8,010 after unrestricted tax revenues. Year-to-date the hospital is showing revenues over expenses of  $584,457 and their cash balance is almost 1.5 million dollars more than this time last year. Days in accounts receivable continue to be impressive at the hospital as the average remained at 42 days for the second straight month. In the nurse’s report for October, there were 869 emergency room visits with an incredible turnaround time of 109 minutes. There were 167 ambulance runs with 171 patients being assessed, 23 surgery cases, 272 home health visits, 7,969 lab tests, 1,036 radiological procedures, 237 CT scans, 24 MRI cans, six nuclear med scans, 279 rehab treatments, 217 dialysis treatments and 427 clinical visits. Pryor said that the hospital auxiliary made a $1,953 profit on the masquerade jewelry sales and $2,610 on this year’s Holiday Home Tour.  The auxiliary also agreed to purchase 18 LG 26-inch flat screen TV’s with speakers for the Long-Term Care resident rooms for 2010. Pryor said that the SMDH video editing is complete and the board will have a copy to review in January. Director of Nurses Carol Lacy reported that the H1N1 flu reached its peak about November 1^st in the Dent County area, but she said that the seasonal flu normally hits the Dent County area in late January or early February, and that spikes of the H1N1 could also return this winter. Administrator Pryor stated that the Seville Nursing Center has agreed to partner with the hospital with the lagoon study through Krehbiel Engineering and they will be meeting on December 16^th.  He said that an emergency room doctor did visit the hospital in November and would like to work a few shifts in January to see how he likes the area. Election filing for two board seats will be held from December 15^th through January 19^th. The District #3 board position currently occupied by Dennis Fiebelman will be up for election for the full six-year term, and the District #2 seat currently occupied by A.J. Seay will be up for election to fulfill the five-year term. Pryor explained that the health insurance premium for the next year is only going increase 2%. The board approved the commercial insurance renewal bid from Progressive Financial for $24,763; and they approved the insurance bid from Town and Country Insurance for auto insurance for $5,648 which is down over a $1,000 from last year. The Board approved the budgeted purchase of a high performance scanner from CDWG for $2,076 and approved new server from Automated Business Systems for $5,141 with 98 licenses from CompUSA for $7,682. The board also approved the non-budgeted purchase of network storage from PC Connection for $1,609. The board then voted to go into executive session.

An accident occurred at 10:28 Friday morning in Texas County on Highway 63 about four miles north of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 International dump truck driven by 53-year old Donald Steelman of Salem, was traveling northbound on Highway 63. As the dump truck was slowing to make a left turn, a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by 52-year old Monica Davy of Licking attempted to avoid the dump truck, struck the dump truck and then continued off the left side of the roadway and overturned several times ejecting the driver. Davy suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. John’s in Springfield by Air Evac. Davy was the only one not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Blazer was totaled and removed from the scene by Kinders Towing of Licking. The dump truck sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. Steelman was tested as required by law.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers captured third place at the Cabool Tournament as they defeated Willow Springs, 45-32. Salem was led in scoring by Jennifer Herndon and Danielle Connell with 13 points each. The Lady Tigers are now 3-2 on the year and will face the Lady Zizzers of West Plains tonight with the JV game at 6:00 and the varsity contest to follow. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers fell to 1-3 with a 54-45 loss to Pacific Friday night. Salem was led in scoring by Phillip Moser with 16 points. Salem will travel to Rolla Tuesday night to face the Bulldogs starting with the JV at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow.

Kim English had a game-high 20 points to lead Missouri past Fairleigh Dickinson 87-36 Saturday night. The Tigers (6-3) burst out of the gates in the second half with a 20-0 run to pull away from the Knights, holding the Fairleigh Dickinson without a field goal for the first 8:53 of the half. The stifling Missouri defense forced 26 Knight turnovers and held the visitors to just 21 percent from the floor, including a lackluster 3 of 22 from three-point range.

Dustin Penner registered a goal and collected three assists, as the Edmonton Oilers scored five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, to stun the St. Louis Blues, 5-3, at Scottrade Center. David Backes scored two goals and T.J. Oshie also found the back of the net for St. Louis, which has dropped two of three. Ty Conklin stopped 33-of-38 shots in defeat. The Blues host Calgary on Tuesday.

The Kansas City Royals signed catcher Jason Kendall to a two-year contract. They also reached agreements on one-year contracts with pitchers Brian Bannister, Roman Colon and Kyle Davies, avoiding arbitration. The Royals have also agreed to minor league contracts with pitchers Adam Bostick, Bruce Chen, Francisco Rosario and Devon Lowery, first baseman Ernesto Mejia, and catcher Vance Wilson.

Chris Johnson ran for 117 yards and two scores in setting a franchise record, as the Tennessee Titans, without an injured Vince Young for much of the game, routed St. Louis, 47-7. Rookie Keith Null got his first career start for the Rams and completed 27-of- 43 passes for 157 yards, with one touchdown and five interceptions. A 2009 sixth-round draft pick, Null started in place of Kyle Boller, who was a late scratch because of a thigh injury that limited him in practice all week. St. Louis (1-12) was already missing starter Marc Bulger because of a broken leg.

Rian Lindell kicked three field goals and Terrell Owens caught the Bills' lone touchdown, as Buffalo used four Matt Cassel interceptions to edge Kansas City, 16-10. Cassel, who was benched in last week's 44-13 loss to Denver, completed 26- of-43 passes for 224 yards, but his turnovers -- the last occurring on a heave into the end zone -- sent the Chiefs (3-10) to a third straight loss. Jamaal Charles logged 143 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries in the setback.
