The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, Commissioners Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune both reported that conditions are too wet for grading, so both district crews are preparing snow equipment for this weekends possible snow storm. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended two MODOT meetings concerning future funding for MODOT and for highway safety and he also attended a Resource and Conservation Development meeting on Wednesday in Houston. At that meeting, Skiles said the two main topics of discussion were the Biomass Conversion Plan around the Willow Springs area, which would be a possible alternative energy source and also about a truck that would haul farmers market items from this area to St. Louis for a farmers market in that area. He said that if anyone has any ideas about the farmers market in St. Louis to please call 417-967-2028. Skiles also attended the MRPC meeting last night in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to register to vote for the 2008 February Primary Election is January 9
th. Susan Cunningham, with Spatial Data Research stopped in to update the commission on where the county stood with rural addressing. She said that she has collected 1000 addresses from the county and 300 have already been addressed. Pat Hansen came by to ask Commissioner Tune if he could have gravel hauled to Dent County Road 528, because a school bus was having trouble turning around and also if a new road sign could be put up. Commissioner Tune said he would have graveled hauled, but wouldn’t put up a new road sign until the rural addressing project was complete, because the road numbers would be changing. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
These streets within the city are hereby designated as emergency “snow routes” and shall have priority over other streets for the clearing of snow, ice or other debris: Third Street west from Highway 19 to Dilworth Lane, and Third Street east from Pershing Avenue to MacArthur Avenue; Fourth Street from Pershing Avenue to MacArthur Avenue; Sixth Street from MacArthur Avenue to Pershing Avenue; Jackson Street north from Sixth Street (Rolla Road) to the dead end; Tenth Street from Highway 19 to Walnut Hill Drive; Pershing Avenue from Tenth Street to Highway 32/72; Center Street from Highway 19 to Craig Industrial Drive; Carty Street from Highway 32-72 to Center Street; Craig Industrial Drive from Highway 32/72 to Iron Mountain Road; Babb Lane from Highway 32/72 to Roosevelt Street; Doss Road from city limits to Highway 32/72; Roosevelt Street east from Highway 19 to Babb Lane and west from Highway 19 to Wines Street; Wines Street from Roosevelt Street to Highway 32/72; Missouri Avenue from Highway 32/72 to Sixth Street (Rolla Road); Franklin Street west from MacArthur Avenue to Highway 72 and east from Highway 19 to Pershing Avenue; Dilworth Lane from Route J to Highway 32-72, and Center Street from Dilworth Lane to Missouri Avenue. Remember to remove your vehicle from these routes when an accumulation of ice and snow is expected so that the route can be cleared or it could be towed at your expense, or you could be sited for a parking violation.
The Dent County Fire Protection District is still accepting toy donations and will through Wednesday, December 19th at 5:00. You can drop off your toys at the KSMO Radio studios in the front lobby, the Salem Police Station, the Dent County Fire Protection District firehouse and Dollar General.
The Dent County Collector’s office will be open tomorrow morning from 9:00 a.m. to noon for your convenience. They will also have extended hours December 26th, 27th, 28th and the 31st until 5:00 p.m.
The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is asking that if anyone would like to have their home judged in the Christmas Decoration Contest, your home must be decorated no later than Monday. Judging will be done on the Tuesday, December 18th and a winner will be announced on the 19th. If you would like to have your home entered in the judging, or if you want to enter someone else’s home into the judging, please call the Chamber office at 729-6900. Please know the persons’ name address and phone number if available. If the home that you are entering is located out of town you may need to give directions to the address. First place will receive $100.00, second place gets $50.00 and third place is awarded $25.00. Last years’ winners were Kurt Irons first place, Donna Phillips second place and Larry Hanger third place.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers are scheduled to be in Newburg tonight to face the Lady Wolves starting at 6:00 with the JV contest. The varsity will play after the JV game and are 4-1 on the year.
The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers are scheduled to play St. Clair Saturday at the SHS Gym starting at 6:00 with the JV contest followed by the varsity game. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO at about 7:15.
The Missouri Basketball Tigers will host McNeese State tomorrow night at 6:30. You can hear the start of the game on KSMO, then the second half on a taped delayed basis. Missouri is 5-3 on the year.
Tomas Vokoun stopped 33 shots for his third shutout of the season as the Florida Panthers downed the St. Louis Blues, 1-0, at Scottrade Center. Stephen Weiss scored the lone goal for the Panthers, who have won two of their last three games. Manny Legace made 24 saves in the loss for the Blues, who have dropped three straight and four of five. The Blues will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 5:00 against the Calgary Flames.
The Toronto Blue Jays have reached an agreement on a one-year contract with free-agent shortstop David Eckstein. Terms were not disclosed as the deal is pending a physical but according to Toronto's web site, the contract is worth $4.5 million.
The Kansas City Royals avoided arbitration with a pair of players on Thursday, as both pitcher Brandon Duckworth and infielder Jason Smith were signed to one-year deals. Financial terms of each deal were not disclosed.

Funeral services for Ralph H. Wood of Rolla, age 81, will be this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Seville Nursing Center Christmas Fund.
Funeral services for Elmo Petty of Salem, age 81, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be this evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Memorial.
Funeral services for Patti Pewitt of Salem, age 43, will be Saturday at 2:00 at Wilson Mortuary. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
