The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, Commissioners Gary Larson and Dennis Purcell said that workers were still checking for slick spots, and working on the hills and curves to make sure they are as safe as possible by putting down salt and sand where necessary. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated he attended the Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Meeting where an application for an additional training grant was approved, and they are waiting on the monetary distribution to all parties by the state. Skiles said he received an e-mail from Mary Ellen Brennan from the Missouri Association of Counties about a representative who would like to introduce legislation to lower the maximum speed limit on rural roads from 60 MPH to 45 MPH unless it is posted differently. Skiles also wanted to commend the Ozark National Scenic Riverways’ personnel on rescheduling the public hearings that had been scheduled in December due to adverse travel conditions. Those hearings have been moved back to January 7th and 8th at the same times and locations as previously indicated. Skiles reported that the prioritization of the transportation needs in the region was done at the TAC meeting Thursday night in St. James The commissioners received a letter concerning the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act of 2000 where the commissioners agreed going with the full payment for the county with 15% set aside for Title 2 projects. This is the same that was done last year, but apparently sequestration kept the funds from being allocated. The commissioners approved renewing the Rural Address contract with the Salem TCRC for $12,000 for 2014, and they approved Sheriff Rick Stallings request to receive bids on three vehicles to be sold by the Sheriff’s Department. Bids for the vehicles must be submitted by 10:00 in the morning on December 30th. Ted Cunningham from the Dent County Extension came in to discuss the extension budget and said the extension was in good shape. He projects the budget to be flat or include just a slight increase. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at the courthouse and it is open to the public.

The Dent County Collector’s Office will be offering extended hours for citizens to be able to pay their real estate and personal property tax. They will be open Saturday, December 14th and Saturday, December 21st from 9:00 in the morning until noon for residents to pay. The Dent County Courthouse will be CLOSED on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The Collector’s office will be open from 8:00 in the morning until 5:30 in the evening on Thursday, December 26th, Friday, December 27th, Monday, December 30th and Tuesday, December 31st. The Salem Police Department released reports for the end of November. On Thursday, November 28th at 11:40 at night, an officer attempted to detain an 18-year old male and a 20-year old male, both of Salem, at the Walmart parking lot. They were believed to be intoxicated, got on a power chair, and attempted to run away from the officer. After the officer began pursuing the suspects they turned the power chair over near Wines and Mary. The suspects were taken into custody.  The 18-year old was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, minor in possession of intoxicants and resisting arrest, while the 20-year old suspect was placed under arrest for minor in possession of intoxicants and resisting arrest. Both were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Friday, November 29th at 7:30 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of East Jack in reference to a burglary. The investigation revealed that someone entered a residence while the residents were sleeping and took a television, DVD player, and movies valued at $590. That afternoon at 4:14, an officer was dispatched to the Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 East in reference to theft of fuel. That investigation revealed that an unidentified driver of a Dodge vehicle pumped $20 in fuel and left without paying. That evening at 7:34, an officer responded to Ellis and Warfel in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer, and resisting arrest. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, November 30th at 4:22 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Jack in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone unknown took a 50-caliber muzzle-loader rifle and two compound bows', valued $550, from a garage. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary or theft reports is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem Tiger boys basketball team will hsot St. James tonight at the SHS gym. Salem is 1-0 on the year and the JV will start out at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. You’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM and online at ksmradio.com. The annual Wagon Parade will be between the JV and Varsity games. All Salem youth Basketball Travel teams, organizations, clubs, and businesses are encouraged to participate in the parade. Savannah Hanning scored 23 points and Cortney Putman added 13 more as the Salem Tigers beat Ava in the first round of the Cabool Tournament Thursday night by the score of 64-57. Salem has evened their record at 1-1 and will face Mountain Grove tonight at 5:30 at Cabool.

David Backes scored twice and St. Louis used an early three-goal barrage to take down Toronto, 6-3, at Scottrade Center. Jaden Schwartz matched a career high with three points on a goal and two assists for the Blues, who have won three of four. Derek Roy, Alex Steen and Chris Stewart also lit the lamp to back a 19-save effort from Brian Elliott. The Blues will be in Columbus on Saturday to play the Blue Jackets and you can hear it on KSMO starting at 5:30.

The 24th ranked Missouri Tiger basketball team will host Western Michigan on Sunday. Missouri is 9-0 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 5:30.

The St. Louis Rams will host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at 3:25, while the Kansas City Chiefs will be in Oakland on Sunday to face the Raiders at 3:05. The Rams are 5-8 on the year and the Chiefs are 10-3 on the season.

Funeral services for Kelly Pryor of Boss, age 53, will be held today at 2:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be held from 11:00 this morning until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

A memorial service for Ella Mae (Leonard) Risner Bucher of Arkansas, age 90, will be held today at 2:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Funeral services for Fleeta Mae Adamick of Salem, age 79, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem with a Rosary at 5:00 pm. Interment will be in the North Lawn Mausoleum in Salem.

Funeral services for Jerry Usher are incomplete and under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
