The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will host a public hearing to discuss design plans for Route 32 in Dent County on Tuesday, January 8th. The meeting will be held in the Salem City Hall Auditorium located at 202 North Washington, Salem, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. An open house format will be used, and interested persons may discuss the project and offer comments. According to MoDOT South Central District Transportation Project Designer Mike Carda, the purpose in hosting this hearing is to share information regarding six of the curves along Route 32. The slight realignment of existing curves will start at Dent County Road 608 and end just east of Dent County Road 240A. Tentative schedules for right-of-way acquisition and construction will also be discussed at the hearing. Those individuals with special needs should contact the MoDOT Customer Service Center, toll-free, at 1-888-ASK MoDOT (275-6636).
The Meramec Regional Planning Commission will conduct their regular meeting this evening at the MRPC office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James beginning at 7:30. After the approval of the consent agenda and several contracts, the Board has set aside time to exchange ideas between the Board members and state legislators representing the Meramec Region. Then in reports, Amy McMillen will report on grants submitted and funded since the last meeting as well as application deadlines and funding availability. Tammy Snodgrass will report on solid waste activities and also on the Homeland Security Oversight Committee activities. Kraig Bone will report on the MREPC activities, Tom Klebba will report on business loan activities and Donald Dodd will report on the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting. T.R. Dudley will report on workforce development activities and Director Richard Cavender will report on current activities. The regular meeting of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission is open to the public.
U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson announced that her staff would not conduct Congressional Connection Stops in the month of December, but “office hours” visits will resume in January. Emerson and her staff are available to help any constituent of the 8th District with any casework concerns relative to federal government agencies. Any 8th Congressional District constituent requiring the assistance of Representative Emerson or her staff can contact the office located in Rolla at 612 Pine or call (573) 364-2455 between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Dent County Republican Committee will be holding a Christmas Social this evening at 7:00 p.m. at the U.S. Bank Courtesy Room. Please bring a favorite snack item and visit with friends and upcoming candidates for 2008.
An accident occurred Tuesday evening at 7:32 in Crawford County on Old Missouri 66 about a half mile west of Route UU, two miles east of Cuba. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Pontiac driven by 29-year old Randolph Sawyer of Steelville was traveling eastbound on Route 66. Sawyer slid on the roadway, overcorrected and ran off the roadway into a tree line. An occupant of the Pontiac, 25-year old Anthony Sumpter of Bizmark suffered minor injuries was taken by the North Crawford County ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Pontiac sustained moderate damage and was towed by Miles Towing.
An accident happened Wednesday morning at 2:20 in Phelps County on County Road 3120 about three miles east of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Ford Taurus driven by 34-year old Johnnie Brown of Rolla was traveling west on County Road 3120. Brown lost control in a curve, traveled off the roadway and struck a fence. Brown suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Central Missouri Towing.

Major League Baseball has reportedly received former Senator George Mitchell's report on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday that MLB officials have started a 48-hour review of Mitchell's report before the highly anticipated scheduled release today. The reason for the review period is so MLB can make sure that the collective bargaining agreement is not violated with disclosures of confidential information. In November, reports surfaced that 11 free agents were among the names included in the report and that the player's agents were notified by the commissioner's office. On Tuesday, the Daily News also cited sources close to the investigation that said the report includes 60 to 80 former and current players names.
The City of Salem Boys and Girls Basketball signups will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 today and tomorrow at the Salem TCRC located in the Salem Freedom Activity Building. The league is for children in 1st through 6th grade. The cost is $15 per child. If you need more information, call City of Salem Parks and Recreation Director Greg Nash at 729-6290.
The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they will host the Florida Panthers starting at 7:30. The Blues have lost two straight and three of their last four games. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
The Salem Lady Tigers will travel to Newburg tomorrow night for non-conference action. The Lady Tigers are 4-1 on the year and the JV will start play at 6:00 followed by the varsity game.
The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will hold a rare Saturday evening contest at the Salem High School Gym against the St. Clair Bulldogs.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will host McNeese State Saturday night starting at 6:30. KSMO will air the beginning of the game, then air the second half on a taped delayed basis.

Funeral services for Belinda Ruth Stulce of Rolla, age 50, will be today at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the Czar Cemetery in Viburnum. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Funeral services for Ralph H. Wood of Rolla, age 81, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Seville Nursing Center Christmas Fund.
