The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports for the first of December involving stealing and burglaries. On December 4th at 12:25 in the morning, a report of stealing was reported at a residence located on County Road 319. Reported taken was $385 in case and various prescription drugs. There was no forcible entry. On December 9th at 7:20 in the evening, a report was received of a burglary from a residence located off of Highway 19 North. Reported taken was a Stihl chainsaw, Model 0-46. There was no forcible entry. On December 11th at 7:05 in the morning, the department received a report of a burglary with forcible entry located at Your Country Store off of “K” Highway. The incident was reported to have occurred over the weekend. The front window had been broken out and the back door damaged. Reported taken was beer, cigarettes & lighters, cash register and cash. The total value of the items reported taken was $320. After further investigation and information gathered from the location led to the arrest of a 17-year old male, who is incarcerated in the Dent County Jail pending a warrant; and a 16-year old male juvenile, who was later released to his parents pending further action in juvenile court. Also recovered during the investigation were cigarettes & lighters, beer, cash register and cash. An accident occurred Monday morning at 10:58 on Highway 32 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a gray 2003 Ford Escape driven by Connie Lynn Williams of Salem was traveling westbound on Highway 32. The Ford stopped for traffic ahead and was struck from behind by a gray 1983 Lincoln Town Car driven by Elbie Hickman of Salem that was unable to stop in time. Williams suffered minor injuries, and no other injuries were reported. The Ford Escape and the Lincoln Town Car both sustained minor damage in the accident.

The Salem Police Department released their reports for the end of November and first of December involving assault, property damage and juveniles. On November 27th at 4:06 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of South Pershing in reference to an assault. The report revealed a 19-year old Salem male had assaulted a 24-year old Salem male. He was arrested and incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. On December 4th at 4:50 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the BP Convenience Store in reference to property damage. The report revealed a large piece of ice fell from the canopy of the building causing damage to a gold 1986 Toyota Camry. On December 5th at 11:02 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of West Thomas in reference to a fugitive. The report led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male on a warrant from the Cedar County Sheriff’s Department. He was incarcerated pending extradition. Later that evening at 4:55, an officer was detailed to the BP Convenience Store in reference to property damage. The report revealed person(s) unknown had broken the driver side door glass out of a gray 2003 Dodge Ram truck that was parked on the north side of the lot. The damage is valued at $150.00 and the report is under investigation. On December 7th at 11:41 in the morning, an officer was sent to the Salem Jr. High School in reference to a fight. The report revealed that two 13-year old juveniles had been fighting at school. Both were detained for disorderly conduct and released to their parents. The report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

An accident occurred Tuesday afternoon in 3:50 in Dent County on Highway 32 about 20 miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1993 Ford Tempo driven by 37-year old Jason Silvey of Salem was traveling eastbound on Highway 32, failed to negotiate a turn, crossed the centerline and struck a 2002 Chrysler driven by 36-year old Danny Hillebert of Salem that was traveling westbound on Highway 32. Silvey suffered serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Hillebert suffered minor injuries and was taken by private conveyance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Tempo sustained extensive damage and was towed by Blacky’s Towing. The Chrysler sustained moderate damage and was towed by Knight Towing of Salem.

The Salem Basketball Tigers overcame 22 turnovers and a 24-point effort by Caleb Parry of Rolla to beat the Rolla Bulldogs last night at the Salem High School Gym, 65-59. The loss ended a three-game losing streak for the Tigers who were led in scoring by C.J. Smith with 14 points. Other Tigers in double figures included Solomon McNeal and Cody Wofford with 11, and Jordan Davis with 10 points. Salem will be off until next Tuesday when they play West Plains.

The City of Salem Winter Youth Basketball Program is just around the corner. Attention parents of children currently in grades 1st through 6th, sign-ups will be held in the evening on Thursday and Friday of December 14th, 15th, and also on the 21st and 22nd from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. All sign-ups will be held in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center, formerly the National Guard Armory. These will be the ONLY sign-ups for the Winter Basketball Program. This league is for all boys and girls that are currently enrolled in the 1st through the 6th grade. The cost is $15 per child. Radim Vrbata had a goal and an assist, as Chicago edged St. Louis, 3-2, in Andy Murray's first game behind the bench as head coach of the Blues. Veteran forward Peter Bondra, who Chicago signed to a contract on Sunday, scored in his first game with the Blackhawks, who scored three goals in the third period in a span of 2:04. St. Louis goaltender Marek Schwarz made his first-career start and allowed three goals on 24 shots. Christian Backman had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who have dropped a season-high eight straight. Doug Weight also scored for the Blues who will be in Colorado tonight to face the avalanche at 8:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Thelma Vance of Rolla will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Second Baptist Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Second Baptist Church in Rolla.

Funeral services for John “Bud” Lea of Steelville, age 84, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
