The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune was not in attendance.  At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that there is still patchy ice on various roads throughout District 1, so drivers still need to be cautious when driving on county roads.  Simpson also said that crews are still removing trees from roadways in the Turtle, Gladden and Bunker areas, but should be finishing up in the next few days. Dent County Clerk Janet Inman reported that a recount of votes for the Recorder of Deeds position would be held Wednesday morning in the Commissioners office with two non-partisan teams presiding over the recount.  At the previous meeting, Chairman of the 100 Wood Acre Rally, Tom Van Hatten and Doug Thomas attended to report that the rally would be held on the last Saturday of February in Dent County with the same routes as before.  Also at the meeting, the MRPC notified Presiding Commissioner Jim Biggs by mail stating that they were closing out the Lead Abatement Project. Court orders were brought in on personal abatements for the Commission and County Clerk to review and sign. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public. 

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular meeting at the Holiday Inn Express Monday evening. At the meeting, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that the hospital lost $1,496 for the month of November with an income of over $1.84 million dollars during the month. In the Director of Nurses report, there were 717 emergency room visits with 56 transfers, 156 ambulance runs, 20 surgeries, 234 home health visits, 7,031 lab tests performed, 1,137 radiological procedures performed, 34 MRI’s, 350 CT Scans, 226 rehab procedures, 119 dialysis treatments, 307 clinical visits and 21 mammograms were given during the month. The board made no decision on the new Physician’s Office Building as to bid out the work or hire their own crew. They feel they need to know if they will be receiving the loan money from Intercounty Electric before any decision is made. The hospital is currently recruiting two family physicians: one from Mid-Missouri and the other is an Oklahoma State Resident. Pryor says it looks very promising for the first physician and the other will be in town on Friday. Pryor says the hospital workforce is short four in the nursing department including an EMT and a paramedic. He reported that discussion on the reopening of the birthing center would continue after the hospital recruits two family physicians and an internist. Administrator Pryor reported that sign ups for  the board seat for District 6 up for election in April begins today and will last through January 16th. Signups are taken in the hospital office from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM weekdays excluding holidays. This board seat is currently held by Joe Brand. The board approved the purchase of the Medical Practice Management Software for $57,500 and the Enterprise Wide Scheduling for $27,500 which is to be made at the discretion of Administrator Pryor when needed. The Chemistry Analyzer Olympus AU400 that the hospital is replacing with a new machine will be purchased by Myco Instruments for $18,000 after the board approved their bid to buy the equipment. The board approved the purchase of a commercial insurance policy through Progressive Financial and the CHUBB program for $21,138 which is lower than last year. They approved the purchase of Workman’s Compensation Insurance through Wausau for $180,000, and they approved the purchase of automotive insurance from Town and Country Insurance and the MOPERM program for $8,614 which is also less than last year. Each of these policies goes into effect on January 1st. The board then went into closed session.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will conduct their December Membership Meeting tomorrow beginning at noon at the Salem TCRC. Jo Ann Wells will be presenting a program on the new tourism tax commission. Lunch will be catered by the Daily Bread Bakery and the cost is $7.00 per person. Funeral services for Thelma Vance of Rolla will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the Second Baptist Church in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Second Baptist Church in Rolla.

Funeral services for John “Bud” Lea of Steelville, age 84, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
