The commencement for the 191st graduating class of the Missouri Sheriff’s Association Training Academy was held Monday night at the New Harmony Church. The class included Anthony Barr, Lucius Burns, Dustin Davis, Rusty Davis, Robert Dowling, Troy Gaddy, Derrick Marfitt, Elizabeth Richmond, Kerry Roberts, Daniel Stephens, Robert Wells, Cory White, and Trevor Young. Graduating in uniform were Anthony Barr with the Steelville Police Department and Daniel Stephens with the Dent County Sheriff’s Office. After the pledge of allegiance and an invocation, site coordinator Sgt. Lenny Pabin said a few words. The Keynote speaker was Sgt. Dan Crain from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Ron Carroll, the training director, handed out awards. Receiving Valedictorian was Daniel Stephens, the Salutatorian was Lucius Burns, the Honor Graduate was Daniel Stephens, and the High Firearms distinction went to Dustin Davis. Sherry Lea, the executive director of the Salem TCRC, was awarded a plaque and a certificate of appreciation for allowing the academy to use the Salem TCRC as their training facility for the first Sheriff’s Training Academy to be held in Salem. Diplomas were then presented to each graduate and a reception was held immediately following the ceremony.

On Monday, December 9th, at approximately 9:55 in the morning, a man came into the Dent County Sheriff's Office to report that his travel trailer had been stolen from hunting property at 606 County Road 6500. According to victim, the trailer, a 30' Jayco Feather Lite, had last been seen on the property on November 21st at approximately 6:00 in the evening.  When the victim returned to the property on Sunday, December 8th at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, he found the trailer gone.  If anyone has any information that would help with the recovery of the stolen camping trailer, please contact the Dent County Sheriff's Office at 729-3241.

On Monday, December 9th, while on routine patrol in the 200 block of Washington, Deputies from the Dent County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle parked in the middle of the street. A short investigation ensued and one person was arrested as a result of the investigation. Arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance was 31-year old Edward McElfresh of Salem. McElfresh is currently being held in the Dent County Jail as result of the arrest on a $10,000 cash only bond. The above information is just a mere accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The Salem Police Department has released more of their reports. On Monday, November 25th at 9:14 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a 26' Vizio television, valued at $389, from one of the rooms. Later that evening at 5:34, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to property damage to a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone damaged the paint on a blue 1993 Chevrolet truck, which was parked in the 300 block of East Third. The value of the damage is about $700. Later on that evening at 9:47, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of East Third in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that someone did $100 in damage to a front door by kicking a lower panel out. On Wednesday, November 27th at 10:40 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the old City Hall building located on North Washington in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that someone entered the building and damaged a door valued $100. Later that afternoon at 2:43, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of North Henderson in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took jewelry items valued at $2,400 from a residence. Later that night at 10:16, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. A little later that night at 10:55, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Ellis in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The Missouri Office of Administration is now accepting management contract bids for the Licking License Office. In fiscal year 2013, more than 16,000 transactions were conducted at the Licking Office generating $52,642 in agent processing fees. Bids will be evaluated on areas such as expertise of the personnel proposed, methods proposed for performing the services and whether the individual or entity is a not-for-profit, political subdivision, a Missouri Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBD), a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) or a Missouri Service-Disabled Veteran Enterprise. Interested individuals and groups must submit their bids to operate the Licking License Office by January 3, 2014. Prospective bidders may also tour the Licking Office on Monday, December 16th from 4:45 to 5:45 pm.

The Salem Tiger Boys Basketball Game with West Plains scheduled for yesterday was postponed. The game will be rescheduled to be played on Thursday, December 19th.

Kevin Shattenkirk's power-play marker with 3:02 left in regulation was the winner, as St. Louis clipped Winnipeg, 2-1, at MTS Centre. Alex Steen also lit the lamp and Brian Elliott stopped 20 shots for the Blues, who reached the 20-win plateau by taking their seventh victory in the last 10 outings. The Blues now sit in second place in the Central Division, six points behind the Chicago Blackhawks, and they will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Tony La Russa was unanimously elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Monday under the Expansion Era Ballot. La Russa managed the Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals for 33 seasons. He compiled 2,728 wins to rank third all-time behind Connie Mack and John McGraw and won three World Series titles, one with the A's in 1989 and twice with the Cardinals in 2006 and 2011.

Funeral services for Mildred M. "Millie" Thompson of Ballwin, MO, age 83, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 in the morning until service time at the Wilson Mortuary. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Funeral services for Kelly Pryor of Boss, age 53, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem and from 11:00 until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

A memorial service for Ella Mae (Leonard) Risner Bucher of Arkansas, age 90, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be imn the Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date.
