Shay Enice Smith of Rolla was indicted on federal methamphetamine distribution charges according to United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway. The 27-year old Smith was indicted by a federal grand jury on one felony count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and four felony counts of distribution of methamphetamine in Rolla and Flat, Missouri. The indictment was returned Thursday, December 4th, but remained sealed until her arrest Tuesday afternoon. She is expected to appear in federal court this week in St. Louis. Count one of the indictment alleges that between July 2007 and January 2008, Smith possessed more than 50 grams of methamphetamine for distribution purposes.  Additionally, Smith is charged with distribution of methamphetamine on four occasions: July 26, 2007 and August 7, 2007 in Rolla, and September 10, 2008, and September 24, 2008, in Flat. If convicted, possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine carries a penalty range of five to 40 years in prison and/or fines up to $2,000,000; each count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $1,000,000. Hanaway commended the joint effort of the Missouri South Central Drug Task Force, United States Forest Service, Rolla Police Department and Phelps County Sheriff's Office; and Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey Jensen, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The Missouri South Central Drug Task Force works in partnership with the Highway Patrol, and numerous federal and local agencies to keep illicit drugs out of our communities and National Forest throughout South Central Missouri. The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their regular monthly meeting today at the Holiday Inn Express beginning at 5:30 pm. At the meeting, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will address the auxiliary report, the hospital activity calendar and give a report on legislative updates. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then give the summary of operations and statistics reports for the month of November along with the nursing service and ancillary service reports. In old business, there will be a physicians office building report, the strategic planning update, an annual bylaw review and a discussion regarding the election filing the begins December 16th and runs through January 20th. In new business the Board will address insurance including; employee health, commercial and auto insurance. The Board may then vote to go into closed session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Salvation Army Service Unit of Dent County’s Christmas kettle campaign is running and will continue every weekend until Saturday, December 27th. The kettles are located at Wal-Mart, Country Mart and Dollar General. Counter Kettles have been placed at various locations around Dent County. The 2008 goal is $20,000. The funds raised during this campaign will be used to assist the citizens of Dent County with gas, utility assistance, and prescriptions.  The Salvation Army also supplies local school children with backpacks, assistance to fire victims and gifts to the residents of local nursing homes. The generosity of the citizens of Dent County will enable the local Salvation Army to continue to meet the needs of those who need assistance in 2009. The Meramec Regional Planning Commission will conduct their regular monthly meeting at the MRPC office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James tonight beginning at 7:30. After approval of the consent agenda and contracts, Molly Malone of Verkamp/Malone CPAs will present the MRPC’s audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008. Connie Willman will report on grants submitted and funded since the last meeting along with application deadlines and funding availability. Ray Schwartze will report on the Housing Advisory Committee meeting. Tammy Snodgrass will report on solid waste activities and on the Homeland Oversight Committee activities. Kraig Bone will report on business loan activity, Donald Dodd will report on the TAC meeting and T.R. Dudley will report on workforce development activities. Chairman Laura Antolak and Director Richard Cavender will then report on issues of interest. The regular monthly meeting of the MRPC is open to the public

The Salem Football Tigers had one person make the All-State Football Teams this year that were announced yesterday. Offensive Lineman Andy Flett was named to the All-State First Team. Congratulations Andy on a great year!

The Salem Tiger Boys Basketball postponed Tuesday night will be made-up this Saturday night starting at 6:00 at Waynesville.

Brendan Morrison's tally with 2:37 remaining in the third period proved to be the game-winner, as the Anaheim Ducks doubled up the St. Louis Blues, 4-2, at Honda Center. Brad Boyes and B.J. Crombeen scored for the Blues, who are 3-4-1 in their last eight games. Manny Legace stopped 10-of-11 shots before leaving in the first period with an undisclosed injury. Chris Mason allowed two goals on 24 shots the rest of the way to take the loss. The Blues will be in Los Angeles tonight to face the Kings starting at 9:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for William Paul Barr of Viburnum, age 74, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held today from 2:00 to 8:00. Funeral services for Mildred Daphene Lough of Rolla, formerly of Salem, age 92, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ira J. Wilson of St. James, age 88, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James with a prayer service at 5:00. Interment will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
