The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning and District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson was not in attendance. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that both district crews were putting spreader boxes on trucks, and checking roads for downed trees and limbs.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that there is a leak in the roof of the Judicial Building that is leaking into the Extension office and once the rain stops it will be fixed. The Commission also received a letter from the Missouri Commissioners Association, asking for all county commissions to write a letter to the Governor requesting that the state raise the prisoner per diem reimbursement in the upcoming legislative session. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the Candidate Tax Affidavit Forms are now available online.  Any person who plans on filing for an election, must fill this form out, have it signed before a notary and notarized, then file it with the Missouri Department of Revenue stating that the candidate is not delinquent on their personal property or real estate property taxes.  The web address for the form is www.dor.mo.gov/tax/candidates. Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash came by to request that the Emergency Operation Center be moved from the City Hall Basement to the firehouse and the Commission agreed. He also asked how he could get money to buy maps, two laptop computers and additional items that might be needed for the emergency operation center. The commission said to set up a budget and have it submitted to the county clerk no later that January 15th, then the Commission would review it at the annual budget hearing. Jamie Homeyer stopped by the meeting to ask the Commission why they turned down the request of the prosecuting attorney to transfer money from one line item to another in her budget for part time help.  According to Commissioner Skiles, Sparks was already aware that she was going to be over budget for clerical help and was okay with letting go her part-time help and no further discussion was needed.  At the previous meeting, Mayor Gary Brown came to tell the commission that the City of Salem is proposing to annex the highway portion only of highway 72 from Dent County Road 321 to highway 32. If you are in support or opposition, contact Mayor Brown at 400 N. Iron.  The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting at the Holiday Inn Express Monday evening. Controller Stephanie Wofford reported that the summary of operations for the month of November showed an excess of revenues over expenses of $26,497 for the month and the hospital year to date has surplus revenues over expenses of $105,301. Much of the increase can be attributed to the increase in outpatient care.  Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor gave the director of nursing report for the month and there were 700 emergency room visits, 119 ambulance runs with 37 dry runs, 24 surgeries, 452 clinical visits, 219 home health visits, 7,177 lab tests, 17 nuclear med scans, 1,065 radiological procedures, 24 MRI scans, 292 CT Scans, 127 dialysis procedures visits and there were 377 rehabilitation treatments. Pryor then stated that the hospital auxiliary met and had numerous people attend interested in becoming part of the auxiliary. The Holiday Home Tour was a huge success for the auxiliary and they wanted to thank all those who went on the tour and those families who allowed their homes to be visited. Pryor reported on Physician’s Office Building 3 and the weather has slowed construction efforts with $229,322 of the $931,500 proposed budget for the project having been spent year to date. The election filing for District 1 seat, currently held by Judy Thompson, will begin December 18 and run thru January 22. Pryor reported that the new software for the hospital was installed at the Salem Family Health Care on Monday and they are working to learn the system. He said the hospital received a $5,000 donation from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks and it will be used in the Acute Care area to upgrade a room to be more family friendly with a sofa and other amenities. He also stated the City of Salem informed the hospital of the plans to annex in the Highway 72 right-of-way from Highway 32 to Dent County Road 321. Property owners whose property is adjacent to the right-of-way can at a later time voluntarily be annexed into the city. In the budgeted equipment purchases, the board approved purchasing a Portable Pulse Oximeter from Tri-Anim for the ER department for $870, and a printer was purchased for $119 from Automated Business Systems for the clinic in unbudgeted purchases. The board then discussed the commercial insurance coverage for the hospital and went with Progressive Financial and their CHUBB policy for $21,290 which is up from last year’s rate of $21,138. They also approved automobile insurance from MOPERM through Town and County Associates for $8,035 which is down from last year’s premium of $8,707. The board then went into closed session.
