The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released a report involving a vehicle submersed in water. According to the report, Deputy Becker was dispatched to County Road 5040 at the bridge just off of Highway 19. The reporting party stated that the lights were still on in the vehicle. Upon arrival he observed a blue Chevy Equinox in the creek on the north side of the bridge. The vehicle was submersed in water up past the windows. From his location, Deputy Becker could not see any signs of occupants. When searching the immediate area for a point of entry, he observed a scuffmark on the side of the bridge support. Further investigation showed where water had splashed up on the roadway and on the rocks between the roadway and creek bed. The temperature was approximately 20 degrees and the water had frozen almost immediately. There was no evidence that anyone had exited the water after the accident, because there would have been frozen water tracks at the point of exit. Whitaker’s Towing was contacted and when they arrived on the scene, Jimmy Whitaker went into the water and determined that no one was in the vehicle. The vehicle was then removed and it was determined that there weren’t signs of any occupants and the windows were down. Whitaker’s Towing took the vehicle to their impound lot where it will be held pending further information.
