Signups for the Dent County Toy Drive will be held today at the Dent County Fire Station from 4:00 to 6:00 pm for newborns through age 12. Parents or guardians who are signing up their children will need to bring proof of Dent County residency, the child’s age and proof the children resides in your home. Once you register, an appointment will be made to pick up the toys on December 18th between the hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. While at the fire station, parents and guardians can also signup children for the Salvation Army Angel Tree which is located at Wal-Mart. For more information on the Salvation Army Angel Tree, call 729-8163.At the Dent County Commissioners meeting Monday morning at the courthouse, Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the sales tax numbers for the county general revenue fund and the law enforcement sales tax fund as well as the CART funds received. The sales tax money received from the state this December for the General Revenue Fund was $80,615.61 which is almost $8,500 more than last December. For the year, the sales tax revenues came in at $828,731.13, up $64,900.43 for the year which is almost an 8.5% increase. The LEST Fund came in for the year at $828,522.68 also up almost 8.5% from last year. CART receipts from the state for November came in at $56,959.84 and that is $6,176.13 higher than last November. So far for the 2014 year, CART receipts are up $26,645. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5150, 5460, 6220 and 6280; while brush would be cut on county road 5690. Another man will be hauling rock from the creek if the road conditions permit. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2240,2270,2330 and 5225 while brush would be cut on county roads 2270, 2580 and 2613. He indicated that a man would be screening brown rock. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported he would be attending a Meramec Community Enhancement Committee Board meeting today at the MRPC, and that Thursday he will be attending the MRPC meetings that include a Transportation Advisory Committee meeting. He discussed with the commissioner’s the top three road priorities for Dent County in 2015 and they were the Low Water Bridge on Route TT in Sligo, the addition of shoulders on Highway 68 and improvements of the replacing of the Standing Rock Bridge on Highway 19 over Gladden Creek. Sheriff Rick Stallings came in to talk with the Commission about the jail conditions. Stallings said this past year, the jail has averaged in the mid 30’s per day with the high of 49 was set in the summer, while on Monday the number of prisoners was at 22. He said with that many prisoners constantly in the jail, it is hard to get maintenance done. He also is going to call a steering committee meeting to get input on what people want to see in a new jail or possible justice center for Dent County. He said in a “perfect” world, he would like to have an 88-bed facility. Some concerns will be on how to get the money to build it, then where will the money come from to operate a larger facility. He also introduced a new part-time dispatcher from Eminence, Matt Conway. The National Park Service Superintendent for the Ozark National Scenic Riverways Bill Black was in to discuss the upcoming Final General Management Plan for the ONSR. He said the final plan would be released this Friday for a 30-day comment period. Black also announced that after 40 and one-half years with the Park Service, he would be retiring at the end of December. Black has been the Superintendent of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways for three years. He took over for Reed Detring. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at the courthouse and that meeting will be open to the public.

In the Cabool Tournament last night, the Salem Lady Tigers beat the Ava Lady Bears in first round action, 68-52. Payton Curley finished with 20 points and 14 assists while Savannah Hanning and Kari Hatridge added 18 points apiece. The Lady Tigers will play Houston in the semifinals of the Cabool Tournament on Thursday. Houston topped Seymour in the first round with a score of 64-30.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will take on West Plains tonight at the West Plains gym. Action starts at 5:00 with the 9th grade game followed by the JV game at about 6:00 and the varsity game will follow. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. Salem is 2-0 on the year.

The annual BENCHWARMERS WAGON PARADE will be held this Thursday, December 11th.  The parade will be held between the JR Varsity and the Varsity game. All clubs, organizations, churches, and businesses are encouraged to participate. Parade participants need to meet in the gym lobby by 6:40.  Candy and trinkets may be PASSED out but not thrown into the crowd.  For more information, please contact Stephanie Floyd at 247-1441.

Chris Porter scored the game-winning goal with 1:54 remaining in the third period to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 4-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on Monday. Maxim Lapierre, Ian Cole and Paul Stastny all scored for St. Louis, which has won its last two games. Martin Brodeur made 32 saves in his home debut. The Blues will host the New York Islanders on Thursday at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.

Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry has been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma by doctors at Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta. The news came two weeks after Berry was placed on the non-football illness list following the discovery of a mass in the right side of his chest, which had caused the safety discomfort during a November 20th game.

Graveside services for Thomas J. Aaron of Rolla, age 81, will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the Roach Cemetery in Rolla. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Roy Dean Graham of Salem, age 33, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Graham Family Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Graham Family or the Cystic Fibrosis Association.

Funeral services for Carmen Nadine Skouby of Freeburg, age 85, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Lloyd Eldon Setzer of St. James, age 78, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the New Dillard Cemetery in Dillard with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Home of St. James or Wounded Warriors Foundation.

Funeral services for Alvin Snelson of Cook Station, age 72, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.
