The Salem Police Department released their report involving a disturbance, stealing, and an arrest from a warrant. On Friday, December 3^rd at 8:30 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of North Pershing Street in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Salem man for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was incarcerated. On Sunday, December 5^th at 5:00 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Mobil Convenience Store in reference to stealing. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 28-year old man and a 24-year old woman, both of Kansas City, for shoplifting $21.76 worth of merchandise. They were issued a summons to appear in court and were released. Later that afternoon at 1:00, a 30- year old Salem woman was arrested at the police station on a warrant for dogs running at large from the City of Salem. She was able to pay the $164.50 fine, the cost on the warrant and she was released. On Monday, December 6^th at 9:15 in the morning, an officer was contacted in reference to a purse being stolen from a shopping cart while they were at Wal-Mart on December 4^th. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem woman for stealing the purse and the contents of $140 in cash. The cash has not been recovered at this time. An accident occurred at 6:06 Tuesday evening in Iron County on Highway 49 in Bixby. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Dodge driven by 43 year-old Sondra Mounce of Boss traveled off the left side of the roadway on a curve and overturned. Mounce suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing of Viburnum.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting on tonight at the Holiday Inn Express in Salem beginning at 5:30 pm. After approval of the minutes from the meeting held November 18^th, Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board on the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar and legislative issues. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then report on the summary of operations and statistics for the month of November along with the nursing services and ancillary service report. In old business there will be a strategic planning goals update for 2010, an update on the hospital lagoon, an annual bylaw review, the Board will set the elections filing dates for December 14^th through January 18, 2011 and a discussion the Salem TCRC. In new business the Board will address the 2011 meeting dates, insurance for workman’s comp, commercial and auto and the Board will also address hospital purchases. The regular meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

This Saturday morning beginning at 10:00, the Ozark National Scenic Riverways is hosting an old fashioned Christmas celebration for the public at the Alley Mill General Store. Bring the whole family and your friends to view Alley Mill and the store all dressed up in holiday decorations. Feast on cookies, cider and hot chocolate. Try out your creativity by making old-time ornaments that you can take home and hang on your Christmas tree to enjoy. The FREE old-time festivities end at 12:00 noon, so come early to allow plenty of time for cookie munching and ornament crafting. The Salvation Army Service Unit of Dent County would like to announce that this year’s Christmas kettle campaign is going on now through Friday, December 24^th. The kettles will be located at Wal-Mart, Country Mart, and Dollar General. Counter Kettles will be placed at various locations around Dent County. This year’s goal is $21,000 and with the continuation of a local mail appeal and the hundreds of volunteer hours donated by individuals, businesses, and clubs to ring the bell at the Christmas kettle, the Salvation Army is hopeful that local citizens will support this campaign generously as they have in the past. This year, David Dittman, a Vice-President at the Bank of Salem, will serve as the Honorary Christmas Campaign Chairman and he thanks everyone for their donation on money, time or both during this Christmas season to make it a brighter 2011 for hose less fortunate. The funds raised during this campaign will be used to assist the citizens of Dent County with utility assistance, and prescriptions. The Salvation Army also supplies local school children with backpacks, and provides assistance to families who have lost everything due to a fire. The generosity of the citizens of Dent County will enable the local Salvation Army to continue to meet the needs of those who need assistance in 2011. Marcus Denmon's steal and subsequent layup with 5.8 seconds left in overtime provided the difference, as 15th-ranked Missouri survived a tough test with Vanderbilt, 85-82, at Mizzou Arena. Denmon finished with 21 points, including 19 after halftime, for the Tigers, who have won 51 straight home games over non-conference opponents. Michael Dixon scored 15, while Ricardo Ratliffe added 14 and nine rebounds in the win. Missouri had 22 more field goal attempts than Vanderbilt but the same amount of field goals made. The Tigers went 31-of-81 from the field, compared to 31-of-59 for the Commodores. Missouri is now 7-1.

The St. Louis Blues will be at home tonight to face the Columbus Blue Jackets starting at 7:00. The Blues are coming off a road trip where they picked up three out of a possible four points. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel underwent a successful appendectomy Wednesday, the team said. The Chiefs' brief statement said Cassel is expected to return to work this week as the team prepares for Sunday's crucial AFC West game at San Diego.

The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with outfielder Jeff Francoeur. The pact is believed to be worth $2.5 million and also includes a mutual option for 2012.
