The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the courthouse Monday morning. Commissioner-elect Dennis Purcell was in attendance and asked about the annex and where it stood being ADA compliant, and if further work needed to be done. He also asked if the commissioners had heard anything from the other counties about the costs associated with the move of the Juvenile officer to the annex. Commissioner Skiles stated that some interior work still needed to be done to office doors to make them compliant and hoped that could be done this fiscal year. Commissioner Tune said that the 42nd Judicial Court would add the amount of the move to the budgets of the other communities on a pro-rated basis consistent with the population of each county. In the road report, Commissioner Simpson reported that they met with FEMA last week and are still uncertain as to what FEMA will pay for the flooding damages until later this week. He said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 4180, 5015, 6380 and 6510. Simpson stated that materials would be added to Dent County Road 5015 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5700. Commissioner Tune said that in District 2, grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2103 and 3310, with materials also being added to road 2103. He said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 4280, that workers were working on a grader, and that paperwork was being finished up for FEMA. Presiding Commissioner Skiles said that he attended a meeting last Thursday for emergency responders using the new rural addressing and about 30 people attended. He said that he would be attending the meeting of the Meramec Regional Enhancement Corporation today. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the books for the clerk’s office and treasurer balanced for November. She said that she would be gone Thursday to a County Clerk Training. Bernie English came in and wanted to know what was going to be done with material that was cleaned out from under the bridge on Dent County Road 6080 on his property. Commissioner Simpson said that the county cleaned it up and was going to burn it, but English said not to do that. English also asked about a culvert and areas of the road that wash out, and Simpson said he addressed it with the road crews without contacting English although he did ask to be called. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock wanted to remind everyone that the collector’s office would be open this Saturday and next Saturday for people to make their tax payments. At the last meeting, the Commissioners signed a letter allowing the city to deed the county two indigent burial spaces at no charge for space or grave opening. Susan Cunningham came in to discuss rural addressing, and the commissioners received and agreed to sign an extended lease agreement on the Fabick wheeloader for one year. Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks and Assistant P.A. Susan Bell came in and requested a closed session to discuss litigation. After ten minutes, the commissioners returned to open session and agreed after talking with the prosecutor that they felt they have no legal standing on abating the 2005 real estate back tax issue. The meeting was then adjourned. On Monday, Commissioner Simpson wanted the prosecutor to sign a statement that it was her opinion that the county had no legal standing. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held on Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
