An accident happened Saturday at noon on Highway 32 about three miles east of Salem that left a Salem man with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, 61-year old John D. Russell of Salem driving a 1998 Ford Expedition traveling westbound, ran off the right side of the road, came back onto the roadway and then ran off the left side of the road. The Ford then overturned and struck a utility pole. Russell suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla by the Salem EMS. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department, the Dent County Fire Department and the Salem EMS assisted the highway patrol in working the accident. The Ford was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. Russell was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident occurred in Crawford County at 11:05 Friday night on Highway 19 three quarters of a mile south of Cuba.  According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Dodge Ram, driven by 30 year-old Kristy L. Grawe of Cuba, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck an embankment. The report stated that none of the occupants of the Dodge were wearing safety restraints. Sustaining serious injuries were Grawe and 18-year old Kristen L. Best of Cuba and they were both transported by ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Also sustaining serious injuries were Cuba residents 21-year old Traci I. Brown, 16-year old Eryn Klebofski, and 12-year old Lucifer West.  Brown, Klebofski and West were all transported by ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. The Dodge was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles Towing.

An accident happened in Phelps County on the Interstate 44 ramp at mile marker #184 Friday night at 6:25. According to the highway patrol report, a 2010 Toyota Highlander driven east by 40-year old Evelyn Aboagye of Rolla, attempted to merge onto Interstate 44, but due to the volume of traffic, had to stomp on the on-ramp. At that time, a 1998 Dodge Pickup driven eastbound by 18-year old Dylan Heavin of St. James attempted to go around the Highlander and collided with the rear of the Toyota. Suffering minor injuries was Evelyn Aboagye and she was to seek her own medical treatment at a later time. Both vehicles had minor damages and were driven from the crash scene.

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri. The counting period began at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 26th and ended at 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 30th. During the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Troop I officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). On Wednesday and Sunday, during peak travel times, Troop I officers also participated in the 20-Mile Trooper campaign on Interstate 44, and dedicated additional manpower to patrolling secondary highways. While participating in these operations, Troop I officers investigated 18 traffic crashes, which resulted in 10 injuries and one fatality. Troopers also made eight arrests for DWI and six arrests for drug violations. Troop I officers issued 231 citations for speed, 81 citations for failure to wear a seat belt, and six citations for not having a child in a proper passenger restraint system. Over the extended holiday period, troopers also issued 542 warnings for various traffic offenses and assisted 172 motorists.

The City Of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, Mr. David Klotz produces a television show for Houston, Missouri, which airs weekly. He was contacted by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Director with an interest in producing a similar show in Salem and he will be presenting a proposal accordingly. The City had requested bids to upgrade the electric service at the Salem Police Department and the Board will address the bid request as well as the bids submitted. City Administrator Ray Walden will then report on varies items concerning the City of Salem and those will be followed by Mayor J.J. Tune’s report. During new and miscellaneous business, the Board will address approving bills that total over $3,000.00 for William Camm Seay at $4,012.50 and the Solomon Corporation for $6,300.00. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The annual BENCHWARMERS WAGON PARADE will be held this Thursday, December 11th at the Boys Basketball game against Cuba.  The parade will be held between the JR Varsity and the Varsity game. All clubs, organizations, churches, and businesses are encouraged to participate. Parade participants need to meet in the gym lobby by 6:40.  Candy and trinkets may be PASSED out but not thrown into the crowd.  For more information, please contact Stephanie Floyd at 247-1441.

With the fifth-year senior throwing for 262 yards and two touchdowns in a near-flawless performance, No. 1 Alabama left no doubt of its imminent inclusion in the College Football Playoff with a 42-13 manhandling of 14th- ranked Missouri in the SEC Championship Game. Jimmie Hunt racked up a career-best 169 yards on six receptions for Missouri (10-3), but the Tigers mustered just 41 rushing yards while allowing 504 total to the Crimson Tide. Missouri will face Minnesota in the Citrus Bowl on New Years Day.

Ryan Spangler had a season-high 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting and No. 22 Oklahoma dismantled Missouri, 82-63, in an SEC/Big 12 Challenge game on Friday. Johnathan Williams III led Missouri (4-4) with 16 points and eight rebounds and Montaque Gill-Caesar scored 15 in the setback. Missouri will host Elon on Thursday.

Martin Brodeur picked up his 689th career win and his first as a member of a team other than the New Jersey Devils. Subbing for an ineffective Jake Allen, Brodeur came up with 14 saves on 15 shots through the game's final two periods as the St. Louis Blues rallied from three goals down to claim a 6-4 victory over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. T.J. Oshie began a three-goal final stanza with a power-play marker, while Paul Stastny and Vladimir Tarasenko added late scores for the Blues, who had lost back-to-back divisional road games. St. Louis will host the Florida Panthers tonight at the Scottrade Center and you can hear it on KSMO starting with the pre-game show at 6:30.

Shaun Hill tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Jared Cook and the Rams blanked the Redskins 24-0 on Sunday afternoon to record their second straight shutout win. Tavon Austin's 78-yard punt return staked the Rams to a 24-0 advantage late in the third quarter, as St. Louis dominated at FedEx Field. The Rams will host the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night at the Edward Jones Dome.

Drew Stanton tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jaron Brown late in the third quarter and Arizona's defense held off Kansas City in the fourth as the Cardinals edged the Chiefs 17-14. Chief’s tight end Travis Kelce fumbled the ball at the Arizona 16 with 5:23 remaining and the Cardinals drained the ensuing 4:14 off the clock by picking up a pair of first downs. Kansas City will host Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Funeral services for Roy Dean Graham of Salem, age 33, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Graham Family Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Graham Family or the Cystic Fibrosis Association.

Funeral services for Carmen Nadine Skouby of Freeburg, age 85, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Lloyd Eldon Setzer of St. James, age 78, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the New Dillard Cemetery in Dillard with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Home of St. James or Wounded Warriors Foundation.

Funeral services for Alvin Snelson of Cook Station, age 72, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.
