The Missouri Department of Transportation held a community briefing on the proposed construction of three new bridges in Dent County in 2012 Wednesday afternoon at the Salem High School cafeteria. The first bridge to be replaced would be on Route NN. The old bridge was built in 1960 and is 89 feet in length and 20 feet wide. The new bridge would be 95 feet in length and 24 feet wide. The old bridge will be closed while the replacement bridge is being built and persons will need to find an alternative route. Construction on the Route NN bridge is scheduled for February of 2012 and should take about 45 days. The next bridge to be replaced would be on Route H and that is scheduled to begin in April of 2012. The old bridge was built in 1931 and is 96 feet in length and 20 feet wide while the new bridge will be 100 feet in length and 24 feet wide. This bridge will be totally closed and again persons will need to find an alternate route. MoDOT will have a signed detour on Highway 72 and Route C. MoDOT says that the construction of this bridge should also take about 45 days. The last bridge to be replaced will be the Highway 32-72 East bridge over Spring Creek. This bridge was also constructed in 1931 and it is 127 feet in length and 22 feet wide. The new bridge will be 135 feet in length and 32 feet wide. Construction of this bridge is scheduled to begin in June of 2012 and a temporary bypass will be constructed around the bridge construction. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a child custody issue, property damage, a stolen license plate, a traffic stop, and theft. On Tuesday, November 29^th at 5:16 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to a child custody issue. During the investigation, a 6-month old male juvenile was reportedly abducted. The juvenile was located and a 41-year old Salem female was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of synthetic narcotics, possession of a hallucinogen, and endangering the welfare of a child. Also arrested was a 36-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a child. Both were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Wednesday, November 30^th at 11:53 at night, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Third Street in reference to property damage. The investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem female for property damage and disorderly conduct. She was incarcerated on a 12-hour hold and will be issued summons to appear in court upon her release. On Thursday, December 1^st at 2:25 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to a stolen license plate. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a rear license plate from a 1996 Ford Escape parked in the 400 block of Hogan Adams Lane. On Saturday, December 3^rd at 12:13 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of the driver, a 53-year old Bunker male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. That same morning at 2:30, officer was detailed to a residence in the 1400 block of South Water Street in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a boy’s Diamondback Viper bicycle valued at $200 from the yard of a residence. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen license plate or the theft of the bicycle, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 5:30 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from their November 22^nd meeting, Comptroller Stephanie Wofford will present the summary of operations and statistics reports for the month of November. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then present the nursing services and ancillary service reports. Administrator Dennis Pryor will then update the Board on the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar, legislative issues and there will also be a construction update. In old business, there will be a 2011 strategic planning goals update and the election filing dates for a seat on the hospital board will start Tuesday, December 13^th and will end on Tuesday, January 17,2012. In new business, the Board will address hospital purchases and insurance including; work comp, commercial and auto. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public. 

Governor Jay Nixon will be in Salem this afternoon at 3:15 at the Faith Mission Food Pantry to help unload venison donated by Missouri hunters through the Share the Harvest program. Share the Harvest is a public-private partnership that provides venison to families in need across Missouri.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will take on the Willow Springs Lady Bears in the Losers Bracket of the Cabool Lady Bulldog Tournament. Game time will be at 7:00 at Cabool. Salem is 0-3 on the year going into the game.

The St. Louis Blues will be hosting the Anaheim Ducks tonight at 7:00. The Blues are 15-9-3 on the year and you’ll be able to hear this game on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Rams claimed quarterback Kellen Clemens off waivers Wednesday and placed starting offensive guard Jacob Bell on injured reserve. The Rams also released cornerback Nate Ness and promoted cornerback Chris Smith from the practice squad.

Funeral services for Jacqueline James of Rolla, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until 1:00 on Saturday. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Adopt a Christmas Family.

Funeral services for Hollie Nicole Chasen of Cook Station, age 16, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Steelville High School. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time at the high school. Interment will be in the Carr Cemetery in Cook Station. Memorials are suggested to the Hollie Chasen Track Scholarship Fund at the Steelville High School. Arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
