The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday evening at the city hall council chambers. The board approved extending the agreement with the Crossroads Redevelopment Corporation for another year until December 4^th, 2012 to allow for the development of a business where the old Tower Inn stood as well as other site improvements. This extension was allowed for in the initial agreement and would delay the tax abatement for another year. The board approved the consent agenda that showed sales tax revenues up $6,404 for the month and year to date up $17,927. Director of Public Works and Engineer Bill Huffman stated that a number of homes still do not have house numbers on them. Notices have been put in the electric bills concerning house numbers and the nuisance officer has also left notices to people reminding them about the numbers. Tickets can be issued for non-compliance with a penalty of up to $50 per occurrence. City Administrator Clayton Lucas stated that lights are going to be installed on the north and south ends of the Salem TCRC. He also checked on insurance for the old middle school and the minimum coverage on the structure would come to about $4,700 a year. He also wanted to thank everyone who attended the parade and felt that there was a great turnout despite the weather. Mayor Gary Brown said that he, Clayton Lucas and some alderman would be attending the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission meeting in St. Robert today to vote on accepting a contract for electric for the city of Salem. Brown stated that he would present as a street priority that MoDOT do something with the Highway 19 and Franklin Street intersection at the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting Thursday night. The stats for the Salem TCRC for the month of November showed that 1,204 people attended their programs while another 1,537 attended the Salem Fitness Center. The board approved Bill #3247 requiring vehicle owners and operators to make sure they are financially responsible for the operation of that vehicle; and they approved Bill #3248 regulating the operation of pawnbrokers within the city limits of Salem. The board also approved Resolution #25-2011 appointing Mayor Gary Brown as the city representative and City Administrator Clayton Lucas as the alternate representative at the Mid-Missouri Municipal Power Energy Pool and the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission meeting; and approved the appointment of the mayor as a director and the city administrator as an alternate director for those meetings in Resolution #26-2011. The board approved the budget adjustment of $3,000 from the Cemetery Fund to pay for the demolition of the Phillips House to increase the size of the cemetery. City Administrator Clayton Lucas presented the board an update yard waste policy where city employees will only collect natural yard waste in bio-degradable bags on the 1^st and 3^rd Mondays of the month. That includes grass clippings, leaves or brush. Mayor Brown suggested the policy include that limbs and branches will be picked up only during a designated week in the spring and autumn. Limbs and braches would also be picked up if there is a storm that causes a tremendous amount of damage. The board approved the change in policy that would go into effect on January 1^st, 2012. The meeting was then adjourned.The Salem Police Department released their report involving theft of fuel, an active warrant, stolen checks, theft and a shoplifter. On Thursday, November 24th at 4:10 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store on Highway 32 East in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed the driver of a gray Chevrolet Sonoma pumped $20 in fuel and left without paying. On Friday, November 25th at 9:30 in the morning, an officer contacted a 23-year old Salem male who had an active warrant from Carter County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. On Saturday, November 26th at 9:56 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to stolen checks. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown stole several checks. It was found that two of the stolen checks had been cashed for a total of $158. On Sunday, November 27th at 10:24 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Casey’s General Store located on Highway 32 East in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that the driver of a white four-door pumped $37.30 in fuel and left without paying.  At 2:50 that afternoon, an officer was sent to the 700 block of South Pershing in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a chain saw valued $150 from an outbuilding. Anyone with any information regarding the theft of fuel or stolen check reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Dent County One Ton Weight Loss Challenge committee will sponsor a Nutrition and Fitness Presentation on Wednesday, December 14 from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Salem TCRC. Jason Edwards, Registered Dietitian & Director of Dietary Services at the Salem Memorial District Hospital will be conducting a presentation for healthy eating & cooking as well as a food demonstration. Susie Cahill, Certified Personal Trainer & Fitness Instructor, will be discussing exercise and fitness. This is your chance to ask the experts about healthy eating and cooking for weight loss, fitness, dieting & nutrition, healthy eating and/or holiday eating. Refreshments will be served. The cost for this workshop is $5.  The Salem TCRC is located in the Salem Freedom Activity Center. Seating is limited, so please register by Tuesday, December 13^th. The Salem Lady Tigers lost to Ava Monday night, 56-26, in the first round of the Cabool Lady Bulldogs Invitational. Darian Grogan scored 16 points and Bailey Barnes added 8 points. Salem will play the loser of the Willow Springs/Mountain Grove game Thursday night.

The Missouri Football Tigers have accepted an invitation to play in the Independence Bowl on Monday, December 26th. The Tigers will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels and the kick-off time will be at 4:00 p.m. central time. It is the 7^th consecutive bowl appearance for Missouri Tigers.

The 10^th ranked Missouri Tigers hit the court tonight in New York City as they square off against Villanova as part of the Jimmy V Classic. You’ll be able to hear the game starting with the pre-game show on KSMO at 5:30.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Detroit Red Wings tonight at 6:30. KSMO will join this game in progress following the Missouri game.

Funeral services for Olyn Wilson of Rolla, age 85, will be held Wednesday at noon at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in the Brookshire Cemetery in Edgar Springs. Memorials may be made to the Brookshire Cemetery.

A Visitation for Jesse Wilburn “Buster” Clements of Salem, age 70, will be held from 11:00 until 1:00 Thursday at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Military Honors will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the mortuary.

Memorial services for Imogene F. Gremmer of St. James, age 83, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the First Church of God in St. James. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time at the church.
