The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will conduct their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 in the City Hall Council Chambers. After roll call and hearing of persons, bids for the pipeline television inspection will be reviewed. City Attorney Nanci Wisdom and Sean Curley, Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board, will then report on the hearings held just prior to the Board meeting. During the hearings, a request will be reviewed for a conditional use permit at 511 North Main Street for a pool hall and arcade. After Alderman reports, Mayor Gary Brown will then give his Public Works Director’s report as well as report on trash problems and a time limit for parking on parking lots. City Clerk Mary Happel will then present Bill Number 3210 for approval. Bill Number 3210 is an ordinance required in order to sign the Warranty Deed to purchase property adjourning the cemetery from Barbara Fiebelman. In new and misc. business, there will be a discussion about Biomass and Cozumel will be applying for a permanent liquor license. The Board will then go into closed session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, an active warrant, and a traffic violation. On Saturday, November 27^th at 6:20 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took approximately 200 gallons of fuel from a 1996 International Truck that was parked in the parking lot on Babb Lane. On Monday, November 29^th at 1:39 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department in reference to a 27-year old male of Richland, Missouri, who was being held on a City of Salem Warrant. He was transported to the Dent County Jail and was incarcerated on the warrant. On Thursday, December 2^nd at 10:44 at night, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 31-year old male of Salem for driving while having his license suspended. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee conducted an audit in Reynolds County and released the following findings. For the Reynolds County disbursements, county procedures related to disbursements in the General Revenue and Road and Bridge Funds are in need of improvement. The county does not have a process in place to obtain bids or document price comparisons when purchasing used equipment or vehicles, and adequate documentation of purchase decisions was not always maintained. Mileage reimbursements paid to County Commissioners appear excessive and the county does not have a written policy regarding the Commissioners’ use of persona vehicles for county purposes. Additionally, the county could not provide documentation to support the basis for vehicle and personal insurance allowance amounts provided to some Road and Bridge employees, and adequate supporting documentation was not retained for some disbursements made for the Sheriff’s office. The cash custody and accounting duties are not adequately segregated in the Sheriff’s office. In addition, mileage logs are not maintained to monitor the use of county-owned vehicles. An accident occurred at 7:00 Sunday evening in Shannon County on Route A at the Dent County and Shannon County line that took the life of a Steelville man. According to the highway patrol report, a 1992 Chevrolet Lumina driven by 34 year-old Jason Henson failed to negotiate a curve, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the roadway, and overturned, partially ejecting him. Henson was flown by Air Evac to the St. Johns Hospital in Creve Coeur and was pronounced dead at 8:30 by Dr. Troop. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Lumina was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Salvation Army Service Unit of Dent County would like to announce that this year’s Christmas kettle campaign is going on now through Friday, December 24^th. The kettles will be located at Wal-Mart, Country Mart, and Dollar General. Counter Kettles will be placed at various locations around Dent County. This year’s goal is $21,000 and with the continuation of a local mail appeal and the hundreds of volunteer hours donated by individuals, businesses, and clubs to ring the bell at the Christmas kettle, the Salvation Army is hopeful that local citizens will support this campaign generously as they have in the past. This year, David Dittman, a Vice-President at the Bank of Salem, will serve as the Honorary Christmas Campaign Chairman and he thanks everyone for their donation on money, time or both during this Christmas season to make it a brighter 2011 for hose less fortunate. The funds raised during this campaign will be used to assist the citizens of Dent County with utility assistance, and prescriptions. The Salvation Army also supplies local school children with backpacks, and provides assistance to families who have lost everything due to a fire. The generosity of the citizens of Dent County will enable the local Salvation Army to continue to meet the needs of those who need assistance in 2011. Jonathan Hambacker scored 24 points but it wasn’t enough for Salem to top Pacific Friday night as the Tigers lost, 60-53. Jacob Kettner added 12 points as Salem falls to 0-3 on the year. The Salem Tigers next game will be Friday at St. James.

The Salem Lady Tiger basketball team will be playing in the Cabool Tournament all this week.

Alexander Steen registered two goals, including the game-winner, and set up another to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena Sunday. Matt D'Agostini also lit the lamp for the Blues, who snapped a five-game winless streak. Jaroslav Halak stopped 21 shots to pick up the win. On Saturday, Taylor Hall scored a breakaway goal only 23 seconds into overtime to give Edmonton a 2-1 victory over St. Louis.

Steven Jackson scored a touchdown and Josh Brown kicked four field goals as the St. Louis Rams topped the Arizona Cardinals, 19-6, at University of Phoenix Stadium. Brown went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and Jackson rushed for 102 yards on 28 carries for the Rams (6-6), who have won two straight. Sam Bradford threw for 187 yards on 18-of-29 passing and Brandon Gibson caught six passes for 54 yards in the win.

Matt Cassel's pass to Leonard Pope in the back of the end zone late in the first quarter proved to be the game's only touchdown, as the Kansas City Chiefs shut down the Denver Broncos, 10-6, to remain atop the AFC West. Cassel completed 17-of-31 passes for 196 yards, and Jamaal Charles rushed for 116 yards on 21 carries for the Chiefs (8-4).

The Missouri Tigers (10-2 overall and 6-2 in Big 12 play, claiming a share of their third North Division title in four years) has accepted an invitation to play in the 2010 Insight Bowl on December 28^th. The Tigers will play the Iowa Hawkeyes (7-5 overall and 4-4 in Big 10 play). The game will kickoff at 9:00 p.m. from Sun Devil Stadium, the home of the Arizona State Sun Devils.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed free agent Lance Berkman to a one-year contract worth $8 million on Saturday. He's a career .296 hitter who owns 327 home runs and 1,099 RBI. Berkman has surpassed the 100-plus RBI barrier six times.
