The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to discuss soliciting bids for depository agreements with the local banks.  Williams said that she would hand deliver the paperwork to Town and Country Bank, Progressive Ozark Bank, US Bank and the Bank of Salem. After discussion it was decided to set the bid submission deadline for 10:00 a.m. December 18th. Then at 10:30 the morning of December 18th, will be a proposed budget amendment hearing, as the Commissioners will need to amend the Road and Bridge budget to cover additional revenue and expenses for the new bridge on Dent County Road 3210. A copy of the proposed amended budget is available at the Dent County Clerk’s office. In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5690 and trees were being cut on county roads 5600 and 4210. Purcell went on to say that maintenance was being completed on grader #33 and a crew was replacing county road signs. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that brush was being cut on Dent County Roads 2595, 4280 and 2610. Larson added that men were in the shop working on a fuel problem on truck #114, plus installing the spreader box on that truck. Larson added that truck #116 has an air problem and is being worked on also. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles noted that he and Commissioner Larson attended the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste District Awards Banquet on Tuesday. Skiles encouraged citizens that know of individuals or entities that deserve recognition for their recycling efforts to let the Commission know. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley noted that bills were being approved and were to be paid. She went on to say that she was working on budgets and encourages office holders to get their budgets in. Curley added that she balanced on all accounts for the month of November with Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams. She also noted that her reports balanced with the Collector’s and Assessor’s offices on all collections and abatements for the month of November and that the Commissioners are to review them. Richard LaBrash stopped by to inform the Commissioners about the Adopt-A- Veteran program at the St. James Veterans Home. LaBrash noted that due to the generosity of Dent County citizens in 2013, the Sons of the American Legion Post 99 was able to provide Christmas gifts to 84 of the 153 residents of the Home. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem invite everyone out to the 2014 Music & Magic of Christmas shopping and parade with the “magic” starting Saturday morning at 10:00 downtown with shopping at local businesses on Fourth Street and with the vendors at the old City Hall until 2:00 in the afternoon. Stop by any vendor or participating business to receive your “Magic” punch card, take the card to each vendor and business listed, and they will “punch” it. Once completed, turn the cards in for a chance to win a Christmas Gift Basket of items donated by the vendors and businesses with an estimated value of over $200. The businesses include Lucky Me/Lucky Lady, Crossroads Corner, Vandivort Drug, Fleming’s Variety, Polka Dot Door, Designing Ideas, Melear Fabrics & Sewing, Candi’s Boots, Clothing Cottage, and Gateway.  The inside vendors include Pink Zebra, ProTandim, Pampered Chef, Thirty-One, Jordan Essentials, Tupperware, Quilt This! Embroider That, JuJuBelle Jewelry, Julie & Me, and Corina Delor Licensed Massage Therapist. There will be one outside vendor: the Eastern Star-Salem Chapter 186. The Parade will begin at 5:30 pm. The parade route will run from the old fairgrounds as the corner of South Grand & Franklin to the Dent County Courthouse.

An accident occurred in Phelps County Wednesday at 4:20 in the afternoon on Forest Service Road 1576 five miles Northwest of Newburg. According to the Highway Patrol Report a 2007 Ford 500 was being driven by 26 year-old Nikole L. Baumgartner of Rolla. According to the report she lost control while rounding a curve and the Ford traveled off the right side of the road where it struck a tree.  Baumgartner was wearing a safety restraint at the time and sustained minor injuries. The Ford sustained moderate damages and was driven from the scene.

The Bonebrake Center of Nature and History, located at 601 North Hickory, will host the 21st annual "Victorian Musical Christmas" on Saturday, December 13th beginning at 7:30 pm. The Salem Chamber Choir, directed by Elaine Russell, will present a concert of secular and religious music of the season. Appetizers and beverages will be served. The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers lost to the Sullivan Lady Eagles last night at Sullivan in their second game of the year by the score of 60-38. The Lady Tigers are now 1-1 on the year.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers are seeded 3rd in the upcoming Cabool Lady Bulldog Tournament. The Lady Tigers will face the 6th seeded Lady Bears from Ava at 8:30 Monday night. The winner of the game will face the winner of the Houston/Seymour game at 5:30 Thursday and the losers of these matches will play Thursday night at 8:30.

The Missouri Football Tigers will take on Alabama in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Saturday afternoon at 3:00. Missouri enters the game with a 10-2 record while Alabama has an 11-1 record and both teams were 7-1 in the SEC. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will take on the Oklahoma Sooners tonight starting at 8:00 in Oklahoma. Missouri is 4-3 on the year. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Rams will be at Washington this Sunday at noon while the Kansas City Chiefs will be at Arizona starting at 3:00. The Rams are 5-7 on the year and the Chiefs are 7-5.

St. Louis Blues lost 4-3 at Nashville last night for their 2nd straight loss. They will face the Islanders Saturday morning at 11:30 on KSMO.

Funeral services for Friend Bryce Maloney, of Salem, age 79, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery in Steelville. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Point Cemetery.

Memorial services for Donna Ann Wulff of Springfield, age 77, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Memorials may be given to Donna’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
