The Dent County Commissioners met for the regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5150, 5620, 6520, 6540 and 6550. He went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5630, and that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 5680. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2020, 2390, 2405, 4430 and 6160; while materials will be added to Dent County Road 2140. He went on to say that a man would be heading to Springfield to get oil for the Dura-patcher. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that on Friday he attended the Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting where they reviewed communication surveys that were sent out in the fall. He said that with excess grant funds, the committee agreed to purchase 23 new radios and provide upgrades to 14 other radios so that they would comply with the new frequencies to communicate with the state during emergencies. In Dent County, the Salem Memorial District Hospital and Salem Police Department will receive two new mobile radios, the Lenox Rural Fire Department will receive one new mobile radio, and that the Montauk and Jadwin Rural Fire Departments would get upgrades for two radios. Each new radio costs $2,700 while upgrades cost $950 for each radio. The commission then discussed the health insurance deductible for the upcoming year. It is currently a $3,500 deductible with the county employee responsible to pay the first $1,500 with the county picking up the remaining $2,000 after the first $1,500 is paid. The health insurance premiums did not increase for the 2013-year. After a discussion about what happens when an employee has to pay their portion of the deductible over time including the following year, the commissioners agreed to leave the policy as is to pick up the final $2,000 of the deductible once evidence that the first $1,500 has been paid. Commissioner Larson also reported that he checked the emergency generator at the Oak Grove Baptist Church and said the propane tank still had 79% fuel in it. The commissioners then went over to the lot at the corner of 5th Street and Iron to see if they wanted all the concrete removed in some areas that would just have to be refilled with rock or to leave it be. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department released several reports. On Monday, November 26th at 12:39 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a room at the Walnut Bowl Motel in reference to a burglary. The investigation led to the detention of a 16-year old male juvenile of Salem for forceably entering a residence and taking a laptop computer valued at $350. He was released to a parent and the report will be referred to the Juvenile Office. Later that afternoon at 4:00, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a missing person. The guardian of an 18-year old Salem female reported her as a missing person after she left school early and did not return home. On Wednesday, November 28th at 12:08 in the afternoon, an officer conducted a search of a residence in the 700 block of William Avenue after reported drug activity. The search resulted in the arrest of a 63-year old Salem male for distribution of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released pending the application for a warrant. Then on Thursday, November 29th at 5:13 in the evening, an officer responded to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That revealed that a male took merchandise valued at $39.97 from the store without paying for it. Anyone with any information regarding the missing person report or the shoplifter report is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
On Tuesday, November 27th at the conclusion of a drug investigation conducted by the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group (LANEG), officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33-year old Thomas C. Anderson from St. James. Anderson was arrested on one count of distribution and sale of a controlled substance. He was released from the Pulaski County Jail after posting a $25,000 surety bond. After Anderson was arrested, LANEG and officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, South Central Drug Task Force, Phelps County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and the St. James Police Department executed a search warrant at his residence in St. James, Missouri. The search of the residence resulted in additional evidentiary items seized. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt.

The West Plains Zizzers outscored the Salem Tigers, 21-8 in the third quarter en route to a 68-50 win Tuesday night in West Plains. The Zizzers had three players in double figures while Brady Floyd led Salem with 18 points followed by Chad Elliott with 13 points. Salem falls to 1-2 with the loss and will try to even their record Friday night when they travel to St. James to face the Tigers starting with the JV contest at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow.
Laurence Bowers poured in a game-high 26 points with nine rebounds as the No. 12 Missouri Tigers overcame a 10- point halftime deficit to down Southeast Missouri State, 81-65, at Mizzou Arena. Phil Pressey totaled 17 points, Tony Criswell added 13, while Keion Bell had 12 points and a game-best 11 boards for the Tigers (7-1), who will play Tennessee State Saturday.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced their Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Year, awarding outfielder Oscar Taveras with the Player of the Year and right-handed pitcher Seth Maness with the Pitcher of the Year. The Springfield Cardinals were also honored by Baseball America as their Minor League Team of the Year.
The Kansas City Royals and second baseman Chris Getz have agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2013 season. Getz's deal leaves the Royals with only one arbitration-eligible player still unsigned.
