The Salem Board of Alderman will hold their next meeting tonight in the City Hall Council Chambers starting at 7:00. In the hearing of persons, Sherman Odom with the Crossroads Redevelopment Corporation will be asking for an extension of time of one year on his agreement with the city to improve the Crossroads Shopping Center that was originally granted in 2001. After the consent agenda, the board will hear the report from Director of Public Works and Engineering Bill Huffman, the report from City Administrator Clayton Lucas, reports from the aldermen and a report from Mayor Gary Brown. In the Introduction and Reading of Bills, Bill #3247 would create an ordinance within the city requiring motor vehicles and operators to have proof of financial responsibility; and Bill #3248 would create an ordinance regulating pawnbrokers within the city limits. The board will also hear two resolutions. Resolution #25-2011 would appoint a representative and an alternate to the Mid-Missouri Municipal Power Energy Pool committee, and Resolution #26-2011 would allow the city to appoint a director and alternate director of the Mid-Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission. In new business, the board will be asked to make a budget adjustment in the Cemetery Fund, then discuss and review an updated yard waste policy. The board may then vote to go into closed session. The City of Salem Board of Aldermen meeting tonight is open to the public.

An accident happened Thursday afternoon at 5:55 in Texas County on Highway 32 about nine miles west of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 2006 Pontiac driven westbound by 33-year old Bethany Hood of Licking, ran off the roadway, overturned and struck a tree. Hood suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Texas County Memorial Hospital. Hood was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Pontiac was totaled and removed from the scene by Triangle Wrecker of Houston.

An accident happened at 1:50 Thursday afternoon in Iron County on Highway 32 about a mile west of Bixby. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Dodge Caravan driven westbound by 16-year old Jarrett Delay of Viburnum, lost control of the vehicle. The Caravan traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck and embankment and then a tree. Suffering moderate injuries was 17-year old Jake Eaton of Bixby who was taken by the Iron County Ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. Delay and Eaton were both wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Caravan was totaled and removed from the scene by Blackies Towing of Viburnum.

An accident occurred at 9:12 Friday evening in Crawford County on Route M about 13 miles south of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by 16-year old Hollie Chasen of Cook Station ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and struck a tree. Chasen suffered serious injuries and was taken to the St. John’s Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Toyota was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles and Son’s Towing.

The Dent County One Ton Weight Loss Challenge committee will sponsor a Nutrition and Fitness Presentation on Wednesday, December 14 from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Salem TCRC. Jason Edwards, Registered Dietitian & Director of Dietary Services at the Salem Memorial District Hospital will be conducting a presentation for healthy eating & cooking as well as a food demonstration. Susie Cahill, Certified Personal Trainer & Fitness Instructor, will be discussing exercise and fitness. This is your chance to ask the experts about healthy eating and cooking for weight loss, fitness, dieting & nutrition, healthy eating and/or holiday eating. Refreshments will be served. The cost for this workshop is $5.  The Salem TCRC is located in the Salem Freedom Activity Center. Seating is limited, so please register by Tuesday, December 13th. The Salem Tiger boy’s basketball team fell to Pacific Friday night, 65-53. Jacob Kettner led all scorers with 29 points and Chad Elliott added 15 points for the Tigers. Salem will host St. James this Friday night.

The Salem Lady Tiger basketball team will be playing Ava tonight at 7:00 in the first round of the Cabool Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Marcus Denmon scored a career-high 31 points as the 13th-ranked Missouri Tigers routed the Northwestern State Demons, 90-56, on Friday. Ricardo Ratliffe scored 22 points and Michael Dixon chipped in 19 points for the Tigers (7-0), who are off to their best start since the 2006-07 season when they began the year 9-0. Missouri hits the court next on Tuesday in New York City as they square off against Villanova in the Jimmy V Classic.

Marian Hossa scored two special teams goals, one shorthanded and one on the power play, as the Chicago Blackhawks bested the St. Louis Blues, 5-2, at Scottrade Center Saturday night. David Perron scored in the first period in his return to St. Louis' lineup after missing 97 games because of a concussion. Chris Stewart also tallied for the Blues, who have dropped two straight on the heels of a four-game win streak. Brian Elliott was beaten four times on 35 shots. It marked the first time he had given up more than two goals in 12 starts this season. The Blues will host the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday.

Dexter McCluster hauled in a 38-yard Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half, and Tyler Palko managed the game by throwing for 157 yards, as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Chicago Bears, 10-3, in a defensive slugfest at Soldier Field. The Chiefs came into the contest ranked last in the NFL with 13 sacks, but Kansas City's pressure got to Chicago quarterback Caleb Hanie seven times. McCluster ran for 61 yards on nine carries for the Chiefs (5-7), who snapped a four-game losing skid. The Chiefs play the New York Jets Sunday.

Frank Gore became San Francisco's all-time leading rusher, and the 49ers clinched their first NFC West title in nine years by shutting out the St. Louis Rams, 26-0. A.J. Feeley got the start and completed 12-of-22 passes for 156 yards and an interception for the Rams (2-10), who were out gained in total yards, 389-157. The Rams play the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.

Funeral services for Lillian Mary Hubbs of Salem, age 86, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Vernon Lee Matlock of St. James, age 79, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation is tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the VFW Post #5608 in St. James.

Funeral services for Olyn Wilson of Rolla, age 85, will be held Wednesday at noon at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in the Brookshire Cemetery in Edgar Springs. Memorials may be made to the Brookshire Cemetery.

A Visitation for Jesse Wilburn “Buster” Clements of Salem, age 70, will be held from 11:00 until 1:00 Thursday at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Military Honors will be held at 1:00 Thursday at the mortuary.

Graveside services for Gary Melvin Gibbs of Springfield formerly of Salem, age 50, will be held Sunday at 1:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Free Holiness Church of Salem.
