The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the courthouse. J.J. Tune was not in attendance, due to a death in the family. District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that due to the frigid temperatures, everything is frozen and crews in District 1 and District 2 were cleaning up and doing routine maintenance. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attend the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management dinner Tuesday night at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission. Two from Dent County were recognized for the their cleanup efforts. Mayor Gary Brown was recognized for his efforts in the recycling around Dent County, and the Round Pond Baptist Church was recognized for their maintaining 3.4 miles of Route H and 5.3 miles of Route DD. Skiles also said that he would be attending the rural addressing training Thursday night at the Dent County Fire Station. A representative was in attendance from the Dent County Sheriff’s Department regarding the new 9-1-1-maintenance agreement that begins December 15th. It was noted that there was an increase to do software upgrades. The contract is for three years and the cost is $674.03 a month. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she would be meeting with Rob Lampham from FEMA along with others at 2:00 Thursday afternoon regarding flood damage reimbursement from the September 14^th flooding. Curley also reported that the bills for the November 4^th election were in and the cost for the election for the county totaled $13,405.79. Curley informed the commission that Ryan from LNI would be at the December 15^th meeting at 10:00 to discuss risk management. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at the courthouse at 9:00 and is open to the public.

Forty-seven individuals representing the vocal music department of Salem High School attended the 43rd Annual Elizabethan Christmas Dinner held at Plaster Student Union on the campus of Missouri State University Thursday, December 4.  The dinners are a unique celebration of the holiday season where the grand ballroom of the student union is transformed into a Grand Hall with a Renaissance setting resplendent in the style of 16th century England with an accent on the music of the period. Those attending enjoyed the antics of the jesters and the players, Renaissance music, then listening for the fanfare heralding the Wassail Bowl, the traditional Boar's Head, and the strolling carolers.  The dinner for the evening included lemon dill chicken, roasted red pepper and gouda soup, herb-roasted potatoes, scalloped corn, spinach salad with orange segments, toasted pecans and homemade sweet and sour dressing, bread loaves and butter, wassail, and English figgie pudding with cherry sauce. The traditional trip to the Elizabethan Dinner was arranged by vocal music instructor, Catherine Dent.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday night at the fire station. It was noted that there was a total of 45 calls that came in during the month of November, for a record total of 380 calls year-to-date. The calls in November consisted of 37.1% that were vehicle related, 16.3% were structure related and 11.3% were brush fires. Engine 82 has been sold and the money received of $1,575.20 was from a company in Cleveland, Ohio. The work to Engine 81 has been completed and Chief Nash and Assistant Chief Floyd will be checking the truck out on December 9^th and bringing it back on the 10^th, if all the tests are passed. After approval of the consent agenda, Chief Nash reported that he received a request from Jadwin Fire Department to help reimburse fuel cost on Mutual Aid Calls. The Board then discussed ways  to help with the cost, but the budget will not allow it. Nash also reported that the roof that was repaired in dispatch has started cracking. The roofing company has been called and they are looking into the cause of the cracking. The roof is under warranty and is being taken care of. The next monthly meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 6^th at 6:00 at the Dent County Fire Protection District building. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced Route 8/19 through Steelville will close from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7^th for a Christmas parade. The closure will match the parade route, which begins at the Steelville Middle School parking lot and continues until just past the 3-way stop where Routes 8 and 19 divide east of town. This closure will improve safety for those observing and participating in the parade.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers lost to Oakville Thursday night at Farmington by the score of 67 to 37. C.J. Smith netted 13 points to lead Salem who falls to 1-2 on the year. They will face Career Construction Carter Saturday at 2:30 at the Farmington Civic Center.

The Missouri Football Tigers will battle with Oklahoma for the Big 12 title tomorrow night starting at 7:00. Missouri enters the game with a 9-3 record. You can hear the pre-game show on KSMO starting at 6:00.

On Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals signed left-handed reliever Trever Miller to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not released. The Thursday, the Cardinals acquired shortstop Khalil Greene from the San Diego Padres. St. Louis shipped pitcher Mark Worrell and a player to be named later to San Diego for Greene.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Calgary Flames tonight starting at 7:00. You can hear the game on KSMO. The Blues have lost three of the last four games.
