An accident occurred on Wednesday, November 28th in Salem at 11:13 in the morning at the intersection of Highway 32 and Elmer. According to the Salem Police report, a maroon 1996 Chevy Blazer driven by 46-year old John Ragan of Salem was traveling westbound on Highway 32 at Elmer. At that time, a green 2000 Chevy Cavalier driven by 80-year old Blanche Pryor of Salem was traveling eastbound on Highway 32 and attempted to turn left onto Elmer at which time the Cavalier made contact with the Blazer in the front driver side. The impact forced the Blazer to veer to the right across the right westbound lane of Highway 32, then on to Elmer crossing the southbound lane where it continued off the shoulder of Elmer and struck a utility pole shearing it off at the ground. The impact spun the Cavalier to the left where it traveled directly behind the Blazer, coming to rest two feet behind it. Both drivers sustained disabling injuries and were transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene by Knight Towing of Salem.

Work has begun on Route 63 from north of Edgar Springs to south of Route K. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has contracted with Lake Asphalt and Construction, LLC, of Osage Beach, to perform an asphalt overlay through this area. Weather permitting, work will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day with completion expected by July 2008. Benefits resulting from the work include creating safer opportunities for motorists to pass other vehicles. In addition, the new asphalt surface will provide an improved driving surface. Rumble stripes also will be added to the project. The total project cost is $3,986,027.96. Motorists can expect minimal delays due to a one-lane restriction in the area of the work. Work zone signage will be in place to warn motorists they are about to approach a moving operation. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution and pay attention for workers on and near the roadway.
