Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse, the Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting where they approved the SB40 Board of Directors recommendation of the reappointment of James Coffman, Mike Bell and Mary McFarland to the board for a two-year term from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2012. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5600, 6303, 6420 and 6490; that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2400 and 2430, and rock would be added to Dent County Road 5490. Purcell also stated that workers would be stockpiling gravel for the winter. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson said that rock would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2110, 3295 and 3305. He also said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2115, 3233, 3255 and 4380; and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3170. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he and Commissioner Larson attended the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Awards Dinner at the MRPC, but no awards were presented to Dent County this year. Skiles said that he spoke Monday afternoon for about an hour to the insurance adjuster from the roofing company concerning the May 27^th flood of the Dent County Judicial Building. The total claim was for $32,928.18, and after the adjuster calculated depreciation on a number of items, the amount the insurance company wanted to give the county was $28,555. After reviewing those items with Skiles, the adjuster changed some depreciation rates and removed the depreciation from other items altogether and came up with a settlement figure of $31,590.34. The commissioners approved to accept the settlement with a 3-0 vote. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the county did receive a check from FEMA in the amount of $19,489.25 and that money will go into the Road and Bridge Fund. She also said that Adkins Printing was performing their contracted annual maintenance on the optical scan voting machines. Curley went on to report that the 2010 county budget preparation has officially begun and that she has asked all department heads to submit their estimated expenses and revenues by December 15^th. Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash and Marcus Oglesby from SEMA attended the meeting to discuss the National Instant Management System training. The NIMS program is to be instituted when an emergency situation affects the region, county or city and it outlines who is responsible for the release of damage assessment, in-place shelters, health and medical, resource and supply, warnings and communications, and emergency public information. Elected officials will be required to complete NIMS training, and this will extend to law enforcement officials, fire department personnel and others. Nash will work up a schedule to present to the commission when classes can be held to get people NIMS trained. The amount of training differs depending upon the level of responsibility where basic emergency responders just have to take two courses, while senior-level response supervisors must take six courses. At the last meeting, a representative from Fabick and Company came by to discuss the rental contract of the front -end loader for 2010 at $15,000 for the year. The rent will be $1,250 for the months of December and January and the commission approved to pay both months. The commissioners also approved allowing the sheriff’s department personnel to use their Thanksgiving and day after holidays in the first quarter of the next year due to limited time in December to take the days off. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock said that the county collector’s office would be open tomorrow from 8:30 until 12:00, December 19^th from 8:30 until noon, and will be open until 5:30 from December 28^th through the 31^st.

The Dent County Fire Protection District held their meeting Tuesday night at the fire station. After approval of the agenda, bills were reviewed and checks were signed. The Board then thanked the Dent County Fire Fighters for their hard work in 2009. A total of 441 calls were made during the 2009 year. After a discussion was held on budget changes for the 2010 budget, a motion was made to accept the 2010 budget. In old business, Chief Brad Nash reported that contact with FEMA stated that a check would be mailed in 10 days for the May storm damage. The inventory is still in the works and as hoses are tested, they are added to inventory. The Firehouse software is installed and implemented. Training was held on November 30^th for all key personnel. The Board then set the date for the January meeting for Tuesday, January 5^th at 6:00 pm at the fire station. The meeting was then adjourned.

Jennifer Herndon scored 14 points and Rachel Sirois added 12 more on four 3-pointers as the Salem Tigers scored the final 14 points en route to a 41-28 win over Sullivan at the SHS Gym. Herndon also pulled down 10 rebounds for Salem who is now 1-1 on the year. They will face Mountain Grove Monday at 5:30 at the Cabool Lady Bulldog Tournament.

T.J. Oshie scored his first shootout goal of the year for the game-winner, as the St. Louis Blues used an improbable comeback to beat San Jose, 3-2, and hand the Sharks a rare defeat at HP Pavilion. The shootout was made possible after Carlo Colaiacovo's shorthanded goal with seven seconds remaining in the third tied the game, and the Blues moved to 4-1-2 in their last seven road games. Jay McClement also scored, while Ty Conklin made 32 saves in a superb spot start. The Blues will face the LA Kings Saturday at 3:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

The Missouri Tigers will host the Oregon Ducks Saturday following the Blues game with the 2nd half on a tape delay basis on KSMO Radio. This matchup is part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.

This weekend, the Rams will be in Chicago to face the Bears while Kansas City hosts Denver.

The Kansas City Chiefs have added offensive lineman Jermail Porter to the practice squad.
