An accident occurred Friday afternoon at 1:20 in Dent County on Highway 72 about ten miles south of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Oldsmobile driven by 71-year old Tommie Bass of Salem was traveling westbound on Highway 72 and lost control of the vehicle on the ice covered roadway, ran off the right side, struck a guardrail and overturned. Tommie Bass and his wife, 67-year old Shirley Bass both suffered moderate injuries and were taken by the Phelps County ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Oldsmobile was totaled and was towed by Knight Towing of Salem.

An accident happened Saturday morning at 7:00 on Highway 19 about eleven miles north of Eminence in Shannon County. According to the highway patrol report, 41-year old Pansy Caldwell of Bunker driving a 2000 Plymouth lost control on the ice covered roadway and went off the road and struck several trees. Caldwell suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the St. Francis Hospital. The Plymouth was totaled in the accident, and Caldwell was wearing her seat restraint when the accident occurred.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their meeting on Monday, December 4th at the Salem TCRC located at 1200 West Rolla Road beginning at 7:00 pm. The City requested bids for a laptop computer for the electric department to be used for diagnostic purposes at the substation. After the approval of the consent agenda, the board will hear from the Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission, Sean Curley, on the meeting heard prior to the Board meeting regarding the closing of Orchard Street between West Third and West First Streets made by the First Baptist Church. After the reports and questions by the aldermen, Mayor Gary Brown will give his comments. At a previous board meeting, the board approved an ordinance vacating an undeveloped portion of Beezley Street, requested by Otto Bobbinger.  Bill #3088 will be introduced and read. City Clerk Mary Happel will present bills for approval and the board will then go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and pending litigation.

An accident happened in Texas County Saturday morning at 10:45 on Highway 63 about four miles north of Licking that took the life of a child from Edgar Springs and a teenager from Licking, and left five others with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, a 1990 Ford driven by 24-year old Justin Bradshaw of Licking, crossed over the centerline and struck head-on an Oldsmobile driven by 34-year old Matthew Strom Sr of Edgar Springs. Fifteen-year old Ryan Jones of Licking, who was in the Strom vehicle, died from his injuries at the scene. Suffering serious injuries were the driver, Matthew Strom Sr, who was ejected from the vehicle along with his two children: seven-year Matthew Jr. and eight-year old Amanda Strom. Two other passengers in the Strom vehicle, 11-year olds Blythe and Lashae Brotherton, also suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Ford, Justin Bradshaw, also suffered serious injuries. Bradshaw, Matthew Strom Sr, Lashae Brotherton and Amada Strom were all flown by Air Evac to the St. Johns Hospital in Springfield where Amanda Strom died later from her injuries. Blythe Brotherton, Matthew Strom Jr and the body of Ryan Jones were all taken to the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. The Oldsmobile and the Ford were both totaled in the accident. No one in either vehicle was wearing a seat restraint when the accident occurred.

The Salem Lady Tigers will travel to Cabool tonight at 6:00 to face the Lady Bulldogs in the Lady Bulldog Classic Tournament. The Salem Lady Tigers are 2-0 on the season and are seeded 1st in the tournament. If Salem wins, they will play Thursday night at 6:00, and it they lose, they will play at 6:00 on Friday.

The Farmington Tournament losers bracket games were cancelled this weekend due to the power outages in Farmington so the Salem Tigers did not play over the weekend.

Kalen Grimes notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, as the Missouri Tigers remained undefeated with a 73-54 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces in a non-league match-up from Mizzou Arena. Grimes connected on 6-of-10 shots from the floor, as Missouri (9-0) extended its non-conference home winning streak to 16 games. Stefhon Hannah, Jason Horton and Darryl Butterfield each turned in 10 points in the victory.

St. Louis Blues goaltender Curtis Sanford will be sidelined six to eight weeks with a pulled groin. Sanford left Friday's 5-2 loss against the Chicago Blackhawks early in the first period and did not return. St. Louis recalled goaltender Jason Bacashihua from its American Hockey League affiliate the Peoria Rivermen to take Sanford's spot on the roster.

Phil Dawson's 33-yard field goal, with 7:25 left in overtime, capped a big comeback, led by Cleveland backup quarterback Derek Anderson, as the Browns pulled out a 31-28 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Trent Green completed 24-of-32 passes for 297 yards with four touchdowns and an interception for the Chiefs (7-5). Eddie Kennison had seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City while Tony Gonzalez hauled in nine passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Edgerrin James rushed 26 times for 115 yards, and Marcel Shipp rushed for three touchdowns as the Arizona Cardinals dealt a crushing blow to St. Louis' fading playoff hopes with a 34-20 win over the Rams. Marc Bulger threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns, but threw three interceptions as the Rams (5-7) fell for the sixth time in their last seven games after starting the season 4-1. Torry Holt had seven catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Funeral services for Stella Jane Hawkins of Desloge, age 76, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home Bunker Chapel. Interment will be in the Bunker City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Little Vine United Baptist Church in Bunker.

Funeral services for Anna M. Weston of St. Charles, formerly of Salem, age 96, will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be starting at 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Graveside services for Chance J. Ilges of St. James, age two months, will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Rosati. Memorials may be made to the Chance Ilges family.

A memorial services for Jacob Shea Cimmungs of Salem, age 21, will be held Wednesday night at 8:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. A memorial tribute will be held from 6:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Jacob Cummings family.

Memorial services for Ray Vickery of Salem, age 67, will be held noon Monday, December 11th at the Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Museum, Dent County Animal Shelter and Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund.
