The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse, but District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune was not in attendance due to a death in the family. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that both district workers are doing maintenance on the equipment to get it ready for winter as well changing tires on the graders. Presiding Commissioner Skiles reported that Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks wanted to postpone the scheduled meeting between Bill Seay from Seay Abstract, Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock and her on a back tax issue since she has not received all the information that she has requested. She wanted to reschedule the meeting for Thursday at 10:00 with a closed session to follow immediately after the meeting concerning the back tax issue. Presiding Commissioner Skiles reported that some areas of concern addressed at the MAC conference included the Missouri Statewide 9-1-1 system which has been ranked as the worst in the US, counties to get reimbursed a better per diem for prisoners as they get much less than the state rate of $37.50, as well as to work with legislators to stop them from passing a sales tax exemptions that hinder counties to collect the taxes they have budgeted. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that Missouri would again work on trying to get the Early Voting Act approved to make it easier for many Missouri voters to get to the polls. Curley then reported that Susan Cunningham with Spatial Data would be meeting Thursday evening at 6:00 with emergency responders at the Dent County Fire Protection District Firehouse, and she stated that budget preparation for the next fiscal year is now underway as required by state statutes. Curley said that propane bids for the courthouse were taken by phone with Ferrelgas quoting $1.89 a gallon, Titan quoting $1.99 a gallon, Chilton Oil quoting $2.00 per gallon and MFA quoting $2.05 per gallon. The commissioners voted to accept the low bid from Ferrelgas. Skiles then reported that he would be attending the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Awards Dinner Tuesday night, and that he would be meeting with Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash along with SEMA officials and other parties to discuss updates on agri-terrorism on Wednesday. At the last meeting, the Commissioners appointed Scott Blackwell and Rob Benowitz to the Dent County Tourism Committee. Blackwell will represent tourism while Benowitz will represent general business. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire District is once again going to distribute toys for those who are less fortunate in Dent County and they need your help. They would appreciate the donation of like new to new toys for those younger children who this year would not be receiving any toys of their own. If you would like to help, you can drop off your toys in the front office of the KSMO Radio Station Studios during normal business hours, the Salem Police Station on Jackson Street, and at the Dent County Fire Protection District at the corner of Highway 19 and Center Street. With your help, Santa can help bring the sparkle back to the eye of a child with a toy this Christmas season. The final signup for your child to receive toys this year will be held this Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 at the Dent County Fire Station. For more information, call 729-3250.
