An accident happened at 12:40 Saturday morning in Phelps County on Highway 68 about nine miles south of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Buick Lesabre, driven by 58-year old Charles Immekus of Salem, crossed the centerline and traveled off the left side of the road. The Buick collided with a highway sign and two trees. Immekus suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Buick was totaled and removed from the scene by Spurgeons Towing of St. James. The driver was cited for failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, driving while having his license revoked and driving while intoxicated.
An accident happened Sunday morning at 6:50 on Highway 32 about seven miles east of Licking that left a man with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, 20-year old John Godi of Licking driving a 2003 Ford, failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Godi suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Texas County Memorial. The Ford was totaled in the accident and removed by A-1 Towing. Godi was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.
The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the Salem TCRC located at 1200 West Rolla Road beginning at 7:00 pm. The City requested bids for the sale of one jeep and four police cars and the tabulations will be presented to the Board. After the approval of the consent agenda, Alderman Bill Riley, Mike Whitley, Jim Jackson and Jim McDaniels would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the City of Salem. McDaniels would also like to discuss the Al Brown fields, City Park renovation; a water problem on West Fourth, extending the parking lots at the Al Brown field and Mayor Gary Brown will give his comments on various items. During the introduction and reading of bills, Bill #3112 will be presented. Bill #3112 is an ordinance vacating an undeveloped alley located in Block “A” of Grover’s addition to the City of Salem which was requested to back the Board’s decision at the last meeting to vacate this alley. In miscellaneous business, the Board will discuss harassment ordinances concerning the Internet and phone. The City currently does not have an ordinance making these items an offense. The Board will also discuss User Fees for the City Hall and Freedom Activity Center. After the approval of bills, the Board will go into Closed Session for the discussion of personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman at the Salem TCRC is open to the public.
There is only one sign-up left for the Christmas Toy Drive sponsored by the Dent County Fire Protection District. The last chance to sign-up will be held on Tuesday, December 4th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Fire Station located at the corner of Highway 19 and Center Street. Your child MUST be signed up to receive toys at the Christmas Toy Drive giveaways and they will be held Thursday, December 20th from 2:00 to 7:00 and Friday, December 21st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Dent County Fire Protection District is accepting toy donations again this year and the 2007 Christmas Toy Drive drop off locations are the Dent County Fire Station, the Salem Police Station, Dollar General and the KSMO Radio lobby.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers competed their upset trifecta as they defeated #1 seed Jackson Saturday night, 69 to 59 to win the Farmington Tournament. They will host the Waynesville Tigers tomorrow night.
The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will face Bradleyville tonight at 8:30 in the Cabool Tournament. Salem is seeded third.
Sam Bradford threw for two touchdowns and Chris Brown ran for two other scores, as No. 9 Oklahoma beat top-ranked Missouri Saturday night, 38-17, in the Big 12 championship game. The Sooners beat Missouri for the sixth straight time and for the 18th time in the last 19 meetings. Oklahoma also completed a season sweep of the Tigers, also winning 41-31, in Norman on October 13. Missouri will now head to the Cotton Bowl to face Arkansas.
Patrick Christopher dropped in a game-high 18 points to guide the California Golden Bears in an 86-72 triumph over the Missouri Tigers as part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series. Matt Lawrence made 5-of-11 three-pointers and he finished with 17 points for Missouri, which dropped its second game in a row. Stefhon Hannah netted 14 points and dished out nine assists, and DeMarre Carroll also had 14 points for the Tigers.
D.J. King's second-period goal proved to be the game-winner, as St. Louis defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-1, at the Scottrade Center. Lee Stempniak and Mike Johnson also lit the lamp for the Blues, who have won six straight on home ice and four of five overall. Hannu Toivonen finished the game with 17 saves.
Gus Frerotte threw for 311 yards on 23-of-35 passing, three scores, and two interceptions, as the St. Louis Rams held off the Atlanta Falcons for a 28-16 win at Edward Jones Dome. Torry Holt caught six balls for 135 yards and a score for the Rams (3-9), who have won three of four.
LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 23 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Diego to a 24-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Damon Huard connected on 19-of-34 passes for 186 yards with a touchdown, but was picked off twice by Antonio Cromartie. Huard was also sacked eight times. Tony Gonzalez caught 10 passes for 140 yards for the Chiefs (4-8), who dropped their fifth straight contest.

Funeral services Evelyn Hilgedick of Marshfield, formerly of Salem, age 88, will be Tuesday, December 4th at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter.
Funeral services for Ronald R. Cox of Lecoma, age 68, will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Herman in Rural Dent County. Memorials are suggested to the St. Robert Church of God, building fund.
A celebration of life for Benjamin Franklin Jurjens of Salem, formerly of Montello, Nebraska, age 97, will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Salem United Methodist Church or VFW Post 99.
