The Dent County Commission met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock came in to report the collections to date for this 2014-2015 tax collection year. He said the collections for this year came in at $1,048,360.24 which is higher than for the same time period in the 2013-2014 year and that amount collected was $1,016,199.11. His office will be open extended hours this Saturday from 9:00 AM until noon for those who want to make their tax payments. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said workers would be doing repair work on Grader #33. He also indicated that workers would be identifying and treating slick spots on roads throughout District 1. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that work crews would also be looking for and treating icy spots on roads in District 2. He also reported that on Dent County Road 3180, there is a beaver problem where they keep damming up the culverts creating water to go over the road. Larson said workers would take a backhoe in to clean out the culverts to keep the water flowing. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he and the Commissioner Larson and Purcell as well as Dent County Clerk Angie Curley all attended the Missouri Association of Counties Conference last week. He also stated that he and Commissioner Larson would be attending the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District meeting and awards banquet tonight starting at 5:30 with the meeting with the banquet to follow at 6:30. Ken Ramsey from Vichy will be honored along with the Wallis Companies of Cuba for their recycling efforts. This event is open to the public and will be held at the MRPC Building in St. James. Those wishing to attend are asked to pre-register so dinner arrangements can be made. For more information, call Tammy Snodgrass at 573-265-2993. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said she is working on the budget for next year. At the last meeting, Jerry Kroner with Energy Power Management visited with the Commission about their Computerized Temperature Control system and how it could possibly save money on the utility bills for the county through energy savings in their buildings. The commission may want to visit other courthouses that use this system to see how it works. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday at the Dent County Courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 15 people died during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday counting period starting Wednesday, November 26 at 6:00 PM and lasting through 11:59 PM Sunday, November 30. Troopers investigated 319 traffic crashes, which included 109 injuries. In addition, troopers arrested 92 people for driving while intoxicated. The Highway Patrol investigated all 15 fatalities. During the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday, troopers investigated 299 traffic crashes, which included 140 injuries. There were 11 fatalities statewide over the 2013 Thanksgiving weekend. Troopers arrested 139 people for driving while intoxicated that same weekend in 2013. Nine of the fatalities occurred in the Troop D, Springfield area; three fatalities occurred in the Troop C, Weldon Spring area; while one fatality occurred in each of the Troop A, Lee’s Summit, Troop E, Poplar Bluff, and Troop I, Rolla, areas. There were no boating incidents, boating while intoxicated arrests, or drownings reported during the Thanksgiving holiday counting period.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Thursday, November 20th at 6:10 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of South Wines in reference to a burglary. The investigation revealed that someone entered a residence and took an electric acoustic guitar valued at $300. On Friday, November 21st at 8:40 in the morning, an officer transported a 33-year old Lebanon female to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. Later that afternoon at 3:34, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that someone entered a residence in the 300 block of East Truman and took several guns and ammo valued at $4,975. This led to the arrest of a 31 year-old Salem male for burglary and stealing. The firearms and most of the ammunition were recovered in the Rolla area. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Later that evening at 9:14, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 500 block of South Jackson in reference to a disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 29-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was released with a court date after posting bond. Later that night at 10:54, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart reference a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem male and a 30-year old Mountain Grove male for stealing merchandise valued at $719.91 as well as possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, November 22nd at 4:29 in the morning, an officer located a 29-year old Salem female in the 300 block of East Center who had an active arrest warrant from Crawford County. She was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated at Dent County Jail pending extradition. Later that evening at 10:22, an officer located a 23-year old Salem male in the 600 block of South Jackson who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and released to Dent County Sheriffs Office. Zayne Kyser finished with 23 points, 4 steals, and 5 rebounds as the Salem Tigers topped Crocker, 69-50, in the Key Sport Tip Off Classic. Kobe Mead and Logan Woolf both added 12 points while Josh Bounds scored 9 points for the Tigers. Salem is now 2-0 on the year and will next play on Tuesday, December 9th when they play at West Plains.

The Missouri Tiger basketball team will host the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks tonight at Mizzou Arena. Missouri is 3-3 on the year and you can hear tonight’s game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:30.

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Stephens of Salem, age 74, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Graveside services and interment for Barbara Carroll of Steelville, age 95, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:30 at the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Community Childcare Center in Steelville of the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville.

Funeral services for Paul L Mesplay of Rolla, age 81, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Garden. Memorials are suggested to the Gideons or the Rolla Nutrition Site. Arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
