The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will conduct their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington. During the hearing of persons, J.J. Tune will request payment from the city for the housing and care of Phineas. Bids will then be review that were received for the purchase of a Soundsens “1” 8 Pod with case. The bids were to include training. City Administrator Clayton Lucas and Mayor Gary Brown will give their reports and report on various projects. Resolutions 19 and 20 will be read. They authorize the mayor to sign a quitclaim deed to release a portion of a vacated alley adjoining property at 300 West Franklin Ave. and 500 South Main Street. Lucas will then recognize a city employee. Chief Steelman wishes to inform the board of destruction of old records of the Salem Police Department, as suggested in the Police Clerks Records Retention Schedule Manual. The board will then adjourn. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

Hunters shot 157,273 deer during the November Portion of Missouri’s Firearms Deer Season. Biologists with the Missouri Department of Conservation say this is a significant decrease from last year and from the long-term average and say contributing factors vary by region. Top harvest counties were Texas with 3,309 deer checked, Howell with 3,292, and Oregon with 3,227. This year’s November harvest is 23 percent fewer than in 2012, when hunters checked the third-largest number of deer in the November season’s history. This year’s figure also is 24 percent below the past 10-year average. The Conservation Department recorded five firearms-related incidents during the November Portion. None was fatal. Four were self-inflicted. Two involved loaded firearms in or around motor vehicles, one involved a hunter climbing into a tree stand with a loaded rifle, and one involved a hunter who fell asleep with his finger on the trigger. The only shooter/victim incident involved one hunter mistaking the movement of another hunter for a deer during a drive. The only reported fatality during the November Portion was a hunter who fell from a tree stand. The Antlerless Portion of Firearms Deer season will continue through December 8th. The Alternative Methods Portion opens December 21st and runs through December 31st. Last is the Late Youth Portion January 4th & 5th.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Thursday, November 14th at 9:37 in the evening, an officer made contact with a 24-year old Salem female who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. She was taken into custody in the 1100 block of West Highway 32 and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Saturday, November 16th at 7:25 in the evening, an officer observed a 21-year old Salem female in the 1000 block of East Monday who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Sunday, November 17th at 12:03 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem female for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Monday, November 18th at 12:30 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 46-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Later that morning at 2:54, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1700 block of West Highway 32 in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from Bourbon. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. Later on the morning at 9:17, an officer made contact with a 20-year old St. Louis male in the 100 block of East Fifth who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending a court appearance. A little later that morning at 10:14, an officer was dispatched to Spring Creek Cafe in reference to a burglary. The investigation revealed that someone entered the building by force, took $132 in cash, and caused about $526 in property damage. The Salem Boys Basketball Varsity Tigers opened their season Saturday afternoon with a 77-59 win over Northwest High School at Rolla. Leading 33-28 at halftime, the Tigers pulled away led by Cody Whitaker with 34 points and Marshall Cramer added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Salem will host Pacific this Friday night starting with the JV contest at 6:00 followed by the varsity game at about 7:30. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio.

The Salem Varsity Lady Basketball Tigers lost their opening game against Northwest High School Saturday by the score of 65-61 in overtime. Salem trailed 15-5 after the 1st quarter, but battled back and tied the game with just seconds left to force overtime with the score tied at 50-50. Fouls and injuries forced the Lady Tigers to play with four girls in the overtime period and they were outscored 15-5 in the extra session. Salem was led in scoring by Cortney Putman who finished with 12 points followed by Peyton Curley who netted 11 points and Kari Hatridge who added 10 more. The Lady Tigers will open their home season Thursday night against the Sullivan Lady Eagles.

Henry Josey scampered for a go-ahead 57-yard TD run with 3:34 remaining and 5th ranked Missouri clinched the SEC East with a 28-21 triumph over 19th ranked Texas A&M. The Tigers (11-1, 7-1 SEC) advance to the conference championship next Saturday to take on Auburn.

Earnest Ross was one of three players to score 20 points for Missouri as the Tigers handled Nevada, 83-70. Missouri will host West Virginia on Thursday in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. 

Brent Burns netted his first-career hat trick to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues from SAP Center. The Blues will be in L.A. tonight to face the Kings and you can hear it on KSMO starting at 9:00.

The San Francisco 49ers rode an efficient performance from Colin Kaepernick and a stifling defensive display to a 23-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams at Candlestick Park. The Rams will play the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Four of Peyton Manning's five touchdown passes went to Eric Decker and the Denver Broncos held on to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-28, on Sunday for first place in the AFC West. The Chiefs will play the Redskins on Sunday.

Funeral services for William South of Bunker, age 67, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home.

Funeral services for Inez Saladin of St. James, age 97, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Virginia (Bray) Karr of Rolla, age 94, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Garden. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps Regional Hospice.

Marcus G. Flatt of Salem, age 91, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Herman Cemetery.

A funeral service for Frank Joseph Wevers of St. James, age 89, formerly of Steelville, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
