The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts. On Sunday, November 22^nd at 2:00 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 100 block of South Warfel in reference to a stolen bicycle. The report revealed a Dyno bicycle was stolen from the residence. Further investigation led to the detention of a 13-year old and a 14-year-old male juvenile on the theft. The bicycle was returned to the owner and both juveniles were released to their guardian. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Officer. On Sunday, November 29^th at 5:00 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of South Pershing in reference to a stolen bicycle. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown had stolen a 20-inch gold in color Mongoose bicycle from the residence. On Monday, November 30^th at 9:47 a.m. an officer was detailed to the 100 block of North Martin in reference to illegal hookup of electric and the stealing of utilities. The report led to the arrest of a 43-year old Salem man for stealing utilities. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, an officer was sent to the 800 block of South Carty in reference to a stolen Go-Cart. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown had removed the Go-Cart valued at $100 from the residence. Then at 2:30 p.m. that same afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an individual failing to return borrowed property. The report revealed that a 31-year old Salem man had borrowed a 17-foot log chain from the reporting party. The suspect then moved from Salem failing to return the chain. Anyone with any information about the thefts under investigation is asked to please call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce has begun taking donations for their 2009 Food Drive. Each year they take donations of food, money or gift cards and donate those to a local family in need. Any donations may be dropped off at the Chamber office at 200 South Main Street. A Rolla man has pled guilty to a firearms offense, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced. 68-year old Harold Connerley of Rolla pleaded guilty to one felony count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.  The crimes occurred in December 2008 in Phelps County.  Connerley appeared before United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel, who set sentencing for February 19, 2010. He now faces a penalty of range of five years to life in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000. This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which seeks to prevent violent crime through enforcement of federal firearms laws, such as the law prohibiting the possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes. Reap commended the work on the case by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Rolla Police Department, the South Central Drug Task Force, Phelps County Sheriff, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Assistant United States Attorney Pat Judge, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The annual Christmas Parade of Lights entitled An Old Fashioned Christmas will be held on Saturday December 5^th beginning at 5:30 pm. The parade route will be from the old fairgrounds to the courthouse square. You won’t want to miss this year’s parade with about 15 floats, twenty or more antique cars, tractors, horses, fire trucks and of course Santa Claus. Shortly after the parade the official lighting of the Dent County Court House will take place and the Salem R-80 Upper Elementary Choir will perform under the direction of Julie Cartwright.  The Salem High School Marching Band will also be a part of the parade and will play on the courthouse lawn following the parade.  There will be a first and second place winner for the commercial category and the non-commercial category, with the first in each category taking home $100.00 in prize money and the second place in each category taking home $50.00 in prize money. For more information call the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce at 729-6900.

The Dent County Health Center has received a shipment of the seasonal flu vaccine and will be holding a walk-in clinic on Thursday from 8:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon at the health center at the corner of Franklin and McArthur. There is a limited amount of vaccine available and it will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis until all the vaccine is exhausted. The price of the vaccination is $20 or they will bill your Medicare or Medicaid so bring your card. The Health center does NOT have preservative-free vaccine for children under 3 or pregnant women. Regional selections have been released for Class 3 in high school football for the central region and the Salem Tigers faired well. Named to the All-Region First Team was quarterback Andy Kissir, offensive linemen Phil Bradley, defensive lineman Kelby Pryor and Kevin Presley as the punter. Named to the All-Region Second Team was Ty Floyd as a running back and as a linebacker, and defensive back Jake Schafer. Congratulations Tigers!

St. James receiver Tyler Karnes was their lone representative making the All-Region Second Team.

The Missouri Tigers will be at Vanderbilt tonight starting at 8:00 with the pre-game show. Missouri enters the game with a 4-1 record coming off a loss to Richmond in the South Padre Invitational Tournament. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
