Intercounty Electric Cooperative Association has been taking calls from members in regards to a phone scam targeting Intercounty membership. The calls are coming from (866) 978-0306 and the caller claims to be with Intercounty dispatching. The caller is informing members their most recent credit card payment was not successful and that their account is past due. The member is then informed there is a serviceman on standby, ready to disconnect the power if immediate payment is not made via credit card payment over the phone. THIS IS A SCAM. Intercounty does not call and ask for credit card information. If there is ever a doubt, hang up and contact the Intercounty office at (866) 621-3679. DO NOT FALL VICTIM TO THIS SCAM!

An accident occurred at 9:40 Friday morning in Dent County on Highway H about three miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 23-year old Allan Redd of Salem was driving a 2002 Hyundai Elantra westbound when he lost control and traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a fence and utility pole, then overturned before the vehicle came to rest. Redd suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Hyundai was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident occurred at 5:10 Friday evening in Phelps County that took the life of a Newburg man. According to the highway patrol report, 67-year old Lawrence Collins of Newburg was driving a 1992 Ford Ranger east on Highway FF about a mile east of Edgar Spring when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a mailbox, traveled down an embankment, and struck a culvert. The vehicle the overturned, struck a fence, and came to rest on it’s top. Collins was pronounced dead at the scene by Phelps County Deputy Coroner Lenox Jones. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford was totaled and removed from the scene by Ron Dishman Towing in Rolla. 

Building on a strong opening weekend harvest, Missouri hunters went on to check a total of 167,205 deer during firearms deer season November 15th through the 25th. The number exceeds last year’s harvest of 157,273. The Missouri Department of Conservation reports the top harvest counties were Howell with 3,418 deer checked, Franklin with 3,338, and Texas with 3,170. This year’s harvest is 6-percent larger than last year’s figure and 10 percent below the previous 5-year average for the November portion of firearms deer season. When added to the previous, urban, and early youth portions of this year’s firearms deer season the November portion harvest brings the year-to-date total to 185,890. Twenty-five days of firearms deer hunting remain in the antlerless, alternative-methods and late youth portions of deer season. Archery deer season runs through January 15th.

Troop I, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recorded two traffic fatalities during the month of October 2014.  This is the same as October 2013.  There were 216 accidents with 61 injuries and two fatalities for October 2014 compared to 183 accidents with 66 injuries and two fatalities for October 2013. The total fatalities for 2014 are twenty, which is one more than last year. In October 2014, Crawford County reported 37 accidents with six injuries and one fatality, Dent County reported 17 accidents with 14 injuries, while Phelps County reported 62 accidents with 10 injuries.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers got off to a good start as they topped the Northwest Lady Lions in Rolla Saturday to open the season by a score of 59-52. Kari Hatridge led the Lady Tigers with 17 points including five 3-pointers, followed by Payton Curley with 15 points and Savannah Hanning with 13 points. Salem will be at Sullivan on Thursday night starting with the JV game at 6:00 with the varsity match to follow.

Maty Mauk threw for 265 yards and led two long fourth-quarter touchdown drives that rallied No. 17 Missouri to a 21-14 victory over Arkansas and an appearance in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama Saturday afternoon at 3:00. The Tigers (10-2, 7-1 SEC) sewed up their second consecutive SEC East title by scoring 18 unanswered points, including 15 that came in the final quarter, to overcome a 14-3 first-half deficit and run their winning streak to six games. The SEC Title game will kickoff at 3:00.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored in the final round of the shootout to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Tarasenko also scored in regulation as did David Backes for the Blues, who have won four of their last five. Jake Allen posted 36 stops in the win. The shoot-out win comes on the heels of a thrilling 4-3 overtime Blues win Friday night over Edmonton as Vladimir Tarasenko scored 4:20 into overtime. T.J. Oshie, Alex Petrangelo and Kevin Shatenkirk also scored for the Blues who are tied with Nashville for the top spot in the NHL Central Division. They will face the Blackhawks in Chicago Wednesday night.

Namon Wright had 21 points on 7-of-7 shooting to lead Missouri to a 74-60 victory over Chaminade in the seventh place game of the Maui Invitational on Wednesday. Montaque Gill-Caesar added 18 points to help Missouri (3-3) end the event on a high note after being dealt lopsided losses to Arizona and Purdue over the previous two days. The Tigers will play SEMO on Tuesday night at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.

Tre Mason ran for two touchdowns and caught one more as the St. Louis Rams trounced the visiting Oakland Raiders 52-0 on Sunday. Shaun Hill completed 13-of-22 passes for 183 yards and threw two touchdowns during a dominant first half that saw the Rams (5-7) pile up 38 points. St. Louis scored touchdowns on its first five possessions and added a field goal on its sixth. The 52 points proved to be the Rams' largest margin of victory since moving to St. Louis in 1995. The Rams take on the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Peyton Manning threw two touchdown passes and C.J. Anderson shined once again running the ball as the Denver Broncos led wire-to-wire in a 29-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Alex Smith threw two touchdowns and an interception for Kansas City (7-5), which lost its second straight game on the heels of a five-game win streak. The Chiefs finished with just 11 first downs and only converted 1-of-9 on third down. The Chiefs will play the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

The Kansas City Royals have traded reliever Aaron Crow to the Miami Marlins for a pair of minor league pitchers: lefty Brian Flynn and right-hander Reid Redman. The move comes on the heels of the Royals re-signing right-handed reliever Jason Frasor to a one-year deal.

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Stephens of Salem, age 74, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Graveside services and interment for Barbara Carroll of Steelville, age 95, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:30 at the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Community Childcare Center in Steelville of the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville.

Funeral services for Paul L Mesplay of Rolla, age 81, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Garden. Memorials are suggested to the Gideons or the Rolla Nutrition Site. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
