An accident occurred at 5:45 Wednesday evening in Dent County on Highway 32 about four miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Dodge Ram driven by 64-year old Lonnie Southards of Salem struck a cow. Southards then lost control of the vehicle, crossed the centerline, and struck a 1999 Dodge Ram driven by 43-year old Kelly Schafer of Salem, head on. Lonnie Southards suffered moderate injuries and was flown by Air Evac to St. Johns hospital in St. Louis. An occupant in the 2007 Dodge Ram, 33-year old Dallas Southards of Salem, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Kelly Schafer suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Salem ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. An occupant in the 1999 Dodge Ram, 10-year old Kimber Schafer of Salem, suffered minor injuries and was taken by Salem ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Lonnie and Dallas Southards were the only ones wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Both of the Dodge Rams were totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred at 2:45 Friday afternoon in Crawford County on highway 49 about four and a half miles south of Davisville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Dodge Intrepid driven by 26-year old Anthony Sumpter of Bismarck, crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 2001 Chevrolet pickup driven by 49-year old Randy Asher of Davisville. The Dodge skidded off the right side of the roadway and overturned. The Chevy pickup came to rest off the roadway. Sumpter and an occupant in the Dodge Intrepid, 25-year old Collette Woodfin of St. James, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla by Viburnum ambulance. Sumpter and Woodfin were the only ones wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. Both the Chevrolet pickup and the Dodge Intrepid were totaled in the accident and were removed from the scene by miles towing of Steelville.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00. After approval of the consent agenda, Alderman Bill Riley, Jim Jackson, Kenneth Nash and Jim McDaniels would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the City of Salem. McDaniels would also like an update on asphalting, the street sweeper and would also like to discuss tree trimming. Mayor Gary Brown would like to discuss business licenses with proof of a business owing no sales tax. The Mayor will also discuss that several City employees wanted to see if the Board would change the Christmas Holiday from Wednesday and Thursday, to Thursday and Friday. A vote was taken of the employees of 44 to 14 in favor of the change. During the reading of bills, Bill #5-2008, a resolution concerning an application to the Department of Natural Resources, the Division of State Park’s grants management section. The City and park board are applying for a grant from DNR for the new soccer fields, and the resolution is required as part of the application and will be presented to the Board. In new and miscellaneous business, the City had twelve 8-foot and three 6-foot tables at the Freedom Center that have been taken. This occurred sometime between October 3^rd and October 25^th. Several big banquets are scheduled within the next few weeks and the tables need to be replaced. There is $5,000 that was budgeted for Christmas decorations that was not used and the request is to move $1,056 to equipment maintenance to cover the cost of the stolen tables. After approval of the bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board will then go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform edge rut and shoulder repairs on Route 49, December 2^nd through 5^th. Work on Route 49 will begin at the intersection of Route 19 in Crawford County and continue to the intersection of Route Y in Iron County. Crews and equipment will be located directly on the roadway between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, weather permitting. Motorists are urged to exercise caution. Edge rut repair work requires placing material at the edge of the roadway and is necessary to reduce shoulder drop off. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers opened the season with a 64-56 win over Northwest High School in the Rolla Tip-Off Classic. Zach Pitchford led all scorers with 15 points followed by Grant Gordon with 14 points. C.J. Smith added 11 more, and Cody Wofford and Phillip Moser were also in double figures with 10 points each. Salem went 16 of 21 from the free throw line in the win. Salem will travel to Farmington tonight to face Cape Notre Dame, the defending Class 4 Basketball Champion. Game time tonight will be at 8:00. KSMO will NOT be airing the games at the Farmington Tournament.

Todd Reesing threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Kerry Meier on fourth down with 27 seconds remaining, as Kansas pulled out a 40-37 victory over 12th-ranked Missouri in the regular-season finale for both teams at Arrowhead Stadium. Missouri (9-3, 5-3 Big 12), already headed to the Big 12 title game next week as the winner of the North Division, had a chance to tie it in the closing seconds, but Jeff Wolfert's 54-yard field goal try was partially blocked and came up well short in snowy conditions. Chase Daniel connected on 25-of-41 passes for 288 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions in defeat. He also ran for 103 yards on nine carries, while Jeremy Maclin totaled 155 yards from scrimmage with nine catches for 123 yards and three carries for 32. Missouri already had clinched the Big 12 North Championship and they will play Saturday night at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Keith Tkachuk scored once to notch his 1,000th career point, and help the St. Louis Blues take a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena. Tkachuk became just the 6th United States-born player to reach the milestone, and the 72nd NHL player all-time. Brad Boyes finished with a goal and an assist for St. Louis, which snapped a two-game slide. Jay McClement and David Backes also scored for the Blues, while Chris Mason stopped 28 shots in the win. The Blues will be at Minnesota to face the Wild at 7:00 Wednesday night and you can hear that game on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers improved to 5-1 with a 92-83 win over Oral Roberts Sunday at the Mizzou Arena. The Tigers were led by Leo Lyons with 26 points and eight rebounds followed by Demarre Carroll and 16 points with eight rebounds. The Tigers will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff tomorrow night at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.

Ronnie Brown scored the only touchdown of the contest and the Miami Dolphins edged the St. Louis Rams, 16-12. Marc Bulger went 16-for-35 with 149 yards and was picked off three times while Steven Jackson, who had missed four of the last five games with a right thigh injury, started the game and had 21 carries for 94 yards for the Rams (2-10), who have dropped their last six games. Josh Brown went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts to account for all of St. Louis' points.

Larry Johnson rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown, and Maurice Leggett returned a fumble 67 yards for another score as the Kansas City Chiefs got by the Oakland Raiders, 20-13. Tyler Thigpen completed 15-of-22 passes for 162 yards and was picked off once for Kansas City (2-10), which snapped a seven-game skid. Tony Gonzalez had eight grabs for 110 yards, while Connor Barth kicked a pair of field goals in the win.
