The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. First District Commissioner Bobby Simpson was not in attendance as he is on vacation this week. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that District 2 crews are checking low water bridges for debris and checking over all snow equipment. Tune said that a load of salt was to be delivered Thursday. Presiding Commissioner Jim Biggs reported that he would be attending a Scenic Rivers Watershed Partnership meeting on December 6th in Thayer, Missouri. Troy Ard stopped by the meeting to give the Commission two proposals for remodeling the women’s restroom in the courthouse. Commissioner Tune said a decision would be made at a later date when Commissioner Simpson would be in attendance. At the previous meeting, Angie Punkett with the Dent County Drug Court stopped by to request that the county Treasurer set up an account for the Drug Court deposits. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will have their annual Christmas parade of lights on Saturday, December 2nd. The theme of the parade is “Let It Snow” and will begin at 5:30 pm, with 78 entries scheduled. The parade will take the traditional route from the junction of Franklin & McArthur Streets, travel north on McArthur, then travel east on Fourth Street before ending at the Dent County Courthouse. The Chamber of Commerce asks that parade participants as well as spectators be extra cautious of each other during the parade. The Chamber will be awarding First place prizes for one commercial and non-commercial entrants. New for this year, the Chamber will also be awarding an additional prize to the runners-up for both commercial and non-commercial entries. Sign-ups for the Dent County Fire 2006 Toy Drive will be held on Tuesday, December 5th, Tuesday, December 12th and Thursday, December 14th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Dent County Fire Department. Eligible parents can schedule a pick-up time when you register to pick up toys for their children on either Monday, December 18th from 2:00 to 7:00 pm or Tuesday, December 19th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Fire Station. For more information, contact the Dent County Fire Chief, Brad Nash, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at 729-3250. Toy donations can be made at the Dent County Fire Station, the Salem Police Department, the KSMO Radio lobby, Dollar General and Country Mart.
From now until December 31st, seniors can sign up for prescription drug plans under Medicare Part D. Also, those who are unhappy with their existing coverage can now switch plans. Why? Because their're currently in an "open-enrollment" period. During this period, America's seniors can either enroll for the first time, or pick a new plan that better meets their needs. Due to adverse weather conditions, the Spring Creek Artisan’s Christmas Fest has been cancelled tonight and tomorrow at the Bonebrake Center. The 16th Annual Cookie Walk and the Old Fashioned Children’s Christmas have been rescheduled be held Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Bonebrake Center. Tickets are available for the Victorian Musical Christmas with the Salem Chamber Choir for $5.00 by calling 729-3400.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers game at the Farmington Tournament scheduled for Thursday at 5:00 has been rescheduled for today at 5:00, weather permitting. Salem is 1-1 on the year. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
The Salem JV Tournament games scheduled for Thursday have been rescheduled for Saturday morning at 9:00 at the Salem High School Gym.
Stefhon Hannah scored 21 points to lead the Missouri Tigers to an 86-64 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks in a non- league game. Matt Lawrence tallied 19 points for Missouri (8-0), which also got 14 points from Keon Lawrence and 11 points from Marshall Brown. Charles Thomas and Patrick Beverley netted 15 points apiece in the loss for Arkansas (5-1), while Sonny Weems contributed 11 points. A 6-of-12 effort from three-point range in the first half enabled Missouri to hold a 44-28 lead at intermission. Over the final 20 minutes, the Tigers nailed 6-of-9 attempts from behind the arc to seal the victory. Missouri will face Evansvile Sunday on KSMO starting at 11:30 in the morning with the pregame show.
Scott Hartnell and David Legwand both tallied a goal and an assist to propel the Nashville Predators to a tense 5-4 win over the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center. Bill Guerin scored twice while Keith Tkachuk picked up a goal and a helper for St. Louis, which has dropped its last three games. Manny Legace gave up five goals on 17 shots in the loss, but Curtis Sanford was not tested in his 5 1/2 minutes of relief. Jay McClement also scored for the Blues who will be in Chicago tonight to face the Blackhawks starting at 7:30. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio.

A memorial service for Mary Ann Cooley of St. James, age 54, will be held at the VFW Hall in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Family of Mary Ann Cooley. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
Graveside services for Herbert Buil Deese of Salem, age 87, will be held today at 1:00 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
Funeral services for Anna M. Weston of St. Charles, formerly of Salem, age 96, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Monday starting at 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
