An accident occurred Monday night at 8:15 in Dent County on Highway 72 about 12 miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 34-year old Stuart Spencer of Windsor, Illinois, was traveling westbound on Highway 72. The Chevrolet Tahoe traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the road, then traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then overturned several times before coming to rest off the roadway. Spencer suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Tahoe sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened at 7:15 Monday evening in Crawford County on Highway 19 about eight miles South of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by 38-year old Leslie Martin of Cherryville was traveling southbound on Highway 19. The Ford traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree and then came to rest off the roadway. Martin suffered minor injuries and was taken by the Steelville ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Taurus sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Miles Towing. 

An accident occurred at 9:50 Monday morning in Reynolds County on Highway 21 about a mile south of Centerville. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Dodge driven by 67-year old Glenna Schult of Bunker ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned. Schult suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Advanced Healthcare Medical Center in Ellington. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge was totaled and removed from the scene by Hill’s Towing of Ellington.

December 1^st, 2011 is the deadline for private contractors to apply to manage Mark Twain National Forest recreation sites in 2012. The ten proposed areas are Big Bay Campground on Table Rock Lake; Cobb Ridge Campground in Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV area, Christian County; Greer Crossing Campground near Highway 19 and Eleven Point National Scenic River; Lane Spring, off of Hwy 63 south of Rolla; Loggers Lake near Bunker; Markham Springs near Ellsinore; North Fork Campground on the North Fork of the White River near West Plains; Sinking Creek Cabin at the base of a historic fire tower in Carter County; Sutton Bluff Campground in the Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV Area in Reynolds County; and Watercress Campground, on the Current River in Van Buren. Selected applicants will be authorized to collect camping and day use fees from recreationists, and in return, will maintain campsites and other facilities, including but not limited to maintenance and cleaning of toilets, trash collection, mowing, cleaning campsites and making minor improvements to keep the area safe for users. In return, campground contractors would pay the government a small percentage of fees collected. Anyone interested in being a Mark Twain National Forest campground contractor needs to summit proposals by close of business December 1, 2011 and be available to start operating on site no later than May 1, 2012. The final selection of successful applicants should be made by December 15, 2011. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports three people died during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday counting period which went from 6:00 pm, Wednesday, November 23^rd and ran through 11:59 pm, Sunday, November 27^th. The Highway Patrol investigated all three fatality traffic crashes. Troopers investigated 365 traffic crashes, which included 125 injuries. In addition, troopers arrested 126 people for driving while intoxicated. During the 2010 Thanksgiving holiday, troopers investigated 364 traffic crashes, which included 114 injuries. Statewide, there were seven fatalities over the 2010 Thanksgiving weekend. Troopers arrested 144 people for driving while intoxicated in 2010. Of the three fatality traffic crashes investigated by troopers, one each occurred in the Troop C-Weldon Spring area; in the Troop E-Poplar Bluff area; and in the Troop H-St. Joseph area. There were no boating incidents reported during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday counting period.

The 2011 Chamber Christmas Parade will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3^rd.  This year’s theme is “An Animated Christmas.”  The Grand Marshal will be James Coffman. Coffman, a lifelong resident and businessman in Dent County, recently received the Eugene E. Northern Award during the Meramec Regional Planning Commission's annual banquet. Coffman has served on numerous boards and committees during decades as a businessman and is owner of Roberts-Judson Lumber Company in Salem. The Salem Lady Tiger basketball team lost to Sullivan. 53-19 Tuesday night. Cortney Putman led Salem with six points. The Lady Tigers will be playing in the Cabool Tournament on Monday against Ava at 7:00.

The All-District selections were released for the Mid Missouri District and the Salem Football Tigers had two players named to the teams. Making the All-District First Team was defensive end Carson Sheppard. Named to the All-District Second Team was offensive lineman Dylan Burke. Congratulations Tigers!!!

The Salem Lady Tiger volleyball team had a player receive All-SCA honors. Sammy White was named to the All-SCA Honorable Mention Team.

Matt D'Agostini and T.J. Oshie each lit the lamp as the St. Louis Blues beat the Washington Capitals, 2-1 Tuesday night. Jaroslav Halak made 18 saves to give the team their fourth straight win. The Blues play the Colorado Avalanche Friday.

Funeral services for Teresa Arlene (Walker) Wells of Salem, age 54, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for Charles E. Victor of Salem, age 85, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Leonard Brazzle of Rolla, age 84, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in Rolla.

Funeral services for Liary S. Chitwood of Salem, age 69, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery.
