The Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report from a citizen who stated he had been bitten and chased by two boxers while riding a motorcycle in the area of Routes K and HH. It was requested that the owner be contacted and advised to maintain proper control of the dogs to prevent any future incidents. The owner was advised and further information was obtained in co-operation with the Salem Police Department that these two dogs at the residence might be the dogs that had been stolen from the Dent County Animal Shelter in June 2007. On the evening of November 28
th, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department, the Salem Police Department and the Salem Animal Control Officer went to the residence and the two boxers were identified as the ones taken from the Dent County Animal Shelter. The two boxers were taken into the custody of the Salem Animal Control Officer without incident. Salem Police Chief Clifford Jadwin stated that charges are pending against the dog’s owners.
The Dent County Sheriff’s Department had previously received and released a report of a burglary on November 20th at 8:38 in the morning at a residence located off of Highway 19 South. The incident was reported to have occurred between October 17th and November 18th. Reported taken were a credit card, $60 in cash, gas from a farm tank and a key ring. On November 28th, with the assistance from the resident, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department obtained information that a subject had returned to the residence and attempted to steal more fuel. As a result a 19-year old male was identified. The 19-year old male was located with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Salem Police Department. Further investigation led to solving the incident, which was reported on November 20th. He was taken into custody and is being held pending charges related to the incident.
The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done in the Bunker area on Dent County Roads 561 and 562 and South of Salem on Dent County Road 637. Simpson also said that rock would be hauled from the creek and one crew member would be traveling to Springfield to pick up a load of oil for the durapatcher. On Monday, Simpson attended a Community Block Grant Meeting for a new firehouse and community center in Bunker; and the Commission agreed to make an in-kind contribution of $5,000. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done in the Stone Hill area on Dent County Roads 433 and 437 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 219. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that at the annual Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management Awards Banquet, the Scenic Rivers Industry in Salem was awarded a plaque for their recycling contribution to the Salem and Dent County area. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that all county budgets have been distributed for the 2008 fiscal year. Bill Denny came by the meeting to follow up on a letter he had written to the Commission about concerns he had with the county jail. The Commission said they have discussed those issues with Sheriff Bob Wofford and are looking into ways of fixing them. At the previous meeting, the Commission approved to pay the first bill of $11,000 from Spatial Data Research for rural addressing. Eldon Thomas stopped in to discuss adding some chat on Dent County Road 615 and Jim Baker asked about getting Dent County Road 638 chip and sealed. Dennis Purcell also came by the meeting to talk about the county loader that was broken down and inquired about the lease agreement verses purchasing one. He also asked about expanding the jail and adding storage space. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

C.J. Smith scored 30 points and Taylor Sirois added 29 as well as pulling down 11 rebounds as the Salem Boys Basketball Tigers upset the Knights of Farmington Wednesday night, 85-72. Salem, now 3-0 on the year, will face either Jackson or Cape Central for the tournament championship Saturday night at 7:30. Due to contractual obligations with the University of Missouri, KSMO will NOT be airing the championship game because of the Missouri and Oklahoma Big 12 Championship Football game.
The Salem Girls Basketball Team will be back in action on Monday at Cabool where they will face Bradleyville starting at 8:30. Salem is seeded third in the tournament. Salem is 1-0.
The St. Louis Blues will be on the road tonight in Minnesota to face the Wild starting at 7:00 this evening. The Blues have won seven of their last eight games and their last three games in a row. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio.
The Missouri Football Tigers and Oklahoma will square off for the Big 12 Championship game tomorrow night at 7:00. Missouri enters the game with an 11-1 record while Oklahoma is 10-2. The Sooners did give Missouri their only loss of the season. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pregame show at 6:00.
The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be on the road and face Cal in a game that starts at 10:00. Because of the Missouri Football game, the Missouri Basketball contest will be broadcast on a taped delayed after the football game. Missouri goes into the game with a 5-2 record.
Tony Romo threw four touchdown passes, two to Patrick Crayton, and the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Green Bay Packers, 37-27, to grab the inside track for clinching home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Brett Favre suffered an injured elbow and separated left shoulder in the game in the second quarter.
St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger will not play this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons after not passing the required neuropsych tests following a concussion from last weekend. Bulger underwent the neuropsych testing on Wednesday and missed practice. He had not improved as of yesterday when the decision was made.

Funeral services for Mary Birdsong, of Salem, age 70, will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be this morning from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Funeral services for Elmer Bryant of Salem, age 90, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Memorials may be made to the Seville Care Center Resident Fund.
Funeral services for Doshie Louise Hay of Bunker, age 75, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitatio will be tonight fro 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Greeley Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Hay Family.
Funeral services for Helen M. Wienert of Pittsburg, Mo. formerly of Rolla, age 75, will be held Monday, December 3 at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.
Funeral services Evelyn Hilgedick of Marshfield, formerly of Salem, age 88, will be Tuesday, December 4th at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter.
Funeral services for Ben Jurjens of Salem, age 97, are imcomplete at this time. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorials Chapel.
